Heard today from NZ House. I've been approved in principle!! They are sending me a letter with form to complete (card details for migrants levy etc) in a day or two. All I've got to do is fill in, send passport and apparently I'll have my blue stickers in just over a week. 8 weeks start to finish...I can't believe it. I was expecting to wait for up to 6 months. The timing is great, as we complete on the house on 20th so we can book our flights soon. Look out NZ here we come! WAHAY!! :raebanana

Thank You all. I know, don't know what I've done to deserve it, but I'm not going to analyse it too much! Having said that it did take 2 years to sell house, so swings & roundabouts! :yes

Hi Nettie
You'll be wanting time to slow down soon... seems to be SO much to do!
Best of luck, where are you moving to?

:roll Tell me about it! Everything is just churning round and round in my head at the moment, can't think of anything else.
Will be starting off in BOP, Mt Maunganui with youngest son for a day or two and then on to Lake Taupo to OHs sister. Will stay there till we decide where we would like to settle. Personally would love the Mount but don't think our funds will stretch to a mortgage free house there! In the mean time we will do a bit of travelling and discover the other gorgeous places we could buy in.:)

How exciting! Congratulations! :raebanana :)
It sounds like your plan is all falling into place nicely.
You've put a big smile on my face too - I sent my partnership policy application a few weeks ago - maybe they're catching up with the back-log! All fingers crossed!

Good luck with yours. It appears to be a lot quicker here than in NZ, my son's application went in in October and he hasn't heard a thing!

Thank you! :) I suppose it's quicker from here because they're keen for expat NZers to return home even if it means dragging their foreign partners with them :laugh I hope your son's application speeds up. Is he working in NZ already?

He's been working there for two years. He's also met a kiwi girl and is getting married in November. Hopefully it will be sorted by then :laugh

Congratulations! I'm glad it's all gone so well for you.
I was wondering if our application was being processed since it went in so close to yours, and then OH got home tonight and opened a letter asking for a more detailed medical report from her Dad's specialist.
While we expected this, it is going to delay us for a while longer, but to be honest, that's going to give me more time to complete a couple of big work projects which I couldn't leave without a heavy conscience.
I'm really pleased your process went so quickly for you - enjoy NZ !

That's great news, Nettie. You must be so excited.
Sorry to hear about your delay, Wiki. Hopefully, it won't take too long to get the information she needs. Does the fact that you're a kiwi not mean it's inevitable that she will get residency, even if there are a few little hiccups on the way?
Good luck anyway!

Congrats to you! Did they contact you by phone or email by the way? (wondering if I should be checking my email 20 times a day, or the answering machine :laugh )
Cheers!

Nothing's inevitable with NZIS! But I think we've got more chance of a medical waiver, and even an appeal to the Immigration Minister. Hoping it won't get that far!
OH emailed our case officer this morning and got a very prompt reply clarifying what's needed and being very reasonable about one thing that we thought would be a real sticking point.
Last night I was really worried, and then this morning there is light at the end of the tunnel again - of course once we get over the health hurdle we're still going to need to prove the strength of our relationship, which is never easy if you don't have 20+ years of marriage and several kids the way Nettie and her hubby do!

Do you anticipate that to be difficult, wiki? I just kind of took for granted that this bit would be okay and fairly straightforward! Maybe I shouldn't be too complacent here?
We have started to put together bits and pieces from the past ten years to prove the relationship. Not an enormous amount, mind you, as I find a number of things a bit personal, but enough I thought.
Have you heard of people who had problems with this?

Hey Wiki, hope this makes you feel a little better, Kevin & I have only 5 and half years together under our belts. Our 4 boys are from previous marriages. So don't give up hope.
I phoned NZ house as I had to send them my old marriage cert as proof of my name change and my blood test print outs as the doctor didn't send them with rest of medical results. I only phoned to check they'd received them and I got better news than I expected. So give em a ring! :yes Good Luck

Thanks Nettie - that is good to hear. Sorry for assuming it was such a lengthy sentence to him :laugh
and apologies for hijacking your thread somewhat!
We can't get one of the further medical reports until April 4, because a consultant is on holiday, but that's only to extend his initial report so is straightforward, and we managed to speak to him yesterday about half an hour before he left the office on his holiday! So he's well briefed.
The best we can hope for is an end-of-April decision, but we're not in a rush - once we get the okay then we'll book flights and start packing!
dharder - the partnership proof is, I think, a little more difficult for partnership stream than it is for EOI people. We're not married, and all the bills are in my name since OH moved in here - put we have a letter from a doctor vouching for our relationship, our tenancy agreement, joint car insurance, our joint English Heritage membership sign-up forms from a couple of years ago and the cards that expired in Dec, photos together in foreign places, and a lot of clearly postmarked postcards addressed to us both.
It's an odd collection - but it's all we've got, and may just be odd enough to be taken as acceptable proof!
Plus we're happy to be interviewed here and/or in NZ as and when they think it's necessary.

I was thinking of this proof of partnership thing the other day as I was shoving photos in with the marriage certificate and bills from the insurance co. andandand... remembered Andie McDowell and Gerard Depardieu in "Greencard" - feel familiar?:laugh

:laugh Oh yes! Particularly the moment when i was hunting through all our old photographs for recognisable landmarks in the background - I found the Eiffel tower, The Parthenon, Sydney Opera house... oh the fun :laugh

:laugh Know the feeling well! We aren't married either and I was a bit worried about the evidence too, but I just collected everything in joint names, car insurance, his and mine, with both our names on them. Tickets from last time we visited NZ (sentimental me!) photos together, even birthday, valentine cards. (mind you, half of mine were signed by Mel Gibson, his idea of humour!) Anything really that has both of you or your names on it. We took our paperwork to NZ House and went through everything with nice young kiwi who took everything relevant and gave the rest back. He told us he thought what we had would be enough proof so I felt easy on that aspect. But the whole rigmorole is a nightmare, so stressfull, but it's worth it in the end...so my kiwi man keeps telling me!!!
I'll let you all know in a few weeks. ;)

Why is it more difficult for the partnership stream, you think? And do you provide things that EOI people don't provide? Not that I have much of an idea either way what they want, but wouldn't you prove your relationship in much the same way?
Just wondering now if our stuff is enough (we are going down the partnership route as well, unmarried)
Ah well, we have what we have, we'll see what they say (still waiting for the Met thingy at this stage)
