Today is a very sad day.... I sold my car. I loved that car. <sniff>

Anyway, could someone tell me whether I need to bring proof of no claims discount from the UK when I insure my next car in NZ.

Many thanks
Kelvin

Hi Kelvin,

I know just how you feel, we sold ours week before last. :wah

We have asked our insurers for proof of no claims discount as it can't help to take it with you.

Yes, bring it. They will ask for it here so that you can get the discount.

hi
Yes definately bring it with you as we got big discount, we have 2 cars & they honoured husbands no claims proof on both cars as mine hadn't arrived when we needed to insure 2nd car which was great, unlike the UK.

We didn't bring ours, but they have given us the discount anyway - they said they may need to see it in the event of an accident, so I'd bring it with you, you've got it then!

We bought ours with us, but never got asked for it... I guess it depends who you insure with. Bring it, its only a peice of paper, and does not take up much space!

I brought it with me but the insurance co. said we couldn't bring no-claims from overseas so we didn't get any discount but they put us on some fast-track so we seem to have a pretty good no-claims even though we've only had 2 years here. Sounds like the person we arranged our insurance through didn't know what they were talking about & we missed out on discounts!

Can I ask how much people pay for their car insurance?

We got our first ever car over here in NZ and I wouldn't have a clue what was a good rate and what wasn't.

We pay $102 per month with ASB and we're obviously not entitled to a No Claims bonus yet.

Cheers

Its a Honda Odyssey 2000 - one of those long ones with enough room for 3 car seats and a buggy!

Do you get much of a discount for no claims or holding other insurances with them?

Cheers

Grr, toddler just grabbed the mouse and deleted my message! (serves me right I suppose for trying to surf while he is awake!)

Anyway our Mazda 323, fully comp is around $40 a month, its pretty nippy and has alloys fitted. Our slightly slower, heap of jap junk (Pysar) is around $30 third party. Thats with ASB, and I think I tried state for quotes last year, not a great deal of difference. But we did both bring over full or near full no claims.

We pay $450 per year for full insurance with AMI, that's without No Claims bonus but we did add OH's niece to the contract and she's under 25. Need to renew the insurance next August and will shop around a bit before going with AMI again. Our car is a normal 4 door Nissan Sunny '96 sedan. They were heaps cheaper than any other insurance provider (AA wanted approx $1000/year :roll )

We just paid $400 fully comp for 12 months, that's with full no claims, so definately worth having no claims proof.

I may have got mine slightly cheaper due to the fact that i handle a 44 tonner all day long. We were given a qoute which was quite high from the ASB, but the staff mentioned to whoever was fixing the insurance up about my employ. With that they said it would be cheaper as i wouldn't be such a big risk as somebody who hadn't driven a 3 tonne vehicle before.
