Hi there,
Im moving to New Zealand on a working holiday visa. I arrive on the 10th of April and need to sort accomodation out ASAP. Could somebody please give me some info on Morningside/Kingsland? Ive chosen these because they are close to the city centre so im guessing public transport wouldnt be a problem. Ive look on a satalite image of area and see some thing that looks like a shopping centre, am i right?
Thanks

Didn't know where that was till I looked it up - I'd have called it Eden Park.
Have a look at this:

Eden Park is quite lively .. I've only been there for Rugby. Are you looking for something short-term just till you find your feet? I'd recommend not committing yourself to anything long-term if you haven't actually seen it .. you could come mightily unstuck!
Best of luck,
Dawn

Hiya,
Kingsland isn't very far from Westfield St Lukes (shopping centre), can't really say how far as I usually drive from the city centre but there are pretty good bus links from the mall.

Kingsland is a nice area - very up and coming for those who can't afford the prices in Mt Eden or Grey Lynn. Some nice bars and restaurants and, as Willowshouse said, very handy for Eden Park if you like the rugby.
There are good transport links into the CBD as there are both buses along New North Road and a train station.
Morningside isn't so hot. Cheaper rent, but not so much in the way of amenities. There is a huge mall at St Lukes, but not a huge deal else. Transport to the CBD is good though as there is also a train station and plenty of buses run along the main road.
As an aside, the Kiwi cartoon Bro' Town is set in Morningside, which may be worth watching on YouTube to get an idea...

Thanks for the info. Yea im looking for something long term and since I dont drive I want somewhere close to shopping centers and nessecities, I dont really want to spend my year in the city so somewhere on the border line. I'll do more research with the info you've given.
Thanks

I wouldn't want to spend a year in the city (CBD) either. Some really nice areas that may be worth considering if you want to live close, but have a lively area are Ponsonby, Freemans Bay, St Marys Bay, Herne Bay, Grey Lynn, Mt Eden, Parnell and possibly Newmarket. All have good transport links into the centre, but have good facilities in the local area.
If you're coming over on a WHV are you planning to hostel it first whilst you look for a place? I would suggest Red Monkey on Richmond Rd in Ponsonby if you do. Quiet and very clean. Use TradeMe to look for house shares - there are loads listed under the flatmates section in the areas I've mentioned above. You really don't want to be heading too far out of the city if you have to rely on public transport to get to work in the CBD...
