Hi all
Can anyone tell me where I can find information/instructions on exactly what needs to be cleaned and in what way - can't find it on the immigration website and got trapped in a timewarp in there ;) Also, stupid question Im sure, but I'm assuming that absolutely no foodstuffs whatsoever can be packed i.e. we should be eating everything in the house that is edible over the next two months?!!
Thanks.

Helga,
It is evil stuff!!!
but you have to do ANYTHING that has been outside or has organic matter type stuff on it.
We did bikes, gardening stuff, outside toys, soles of shoes etc etc. I don't think MAF actually state to use this (I may be wrong) but it is the best but be warned it is pungent!!!!!

Is Jeyes Fluid still on the market? My mother told me at the weekend that it has been banned! :? (but she could be wrong!)

The jeyes isn't the be all and end all, just extra. Make sure that there isn't a speck of mud or grass seed etc about, they took the smallest speck off of Petes golf shoes and we got a bit of a disapproving look.

Jayes Fluid is definately still available. In fact I was walking around a hardware store this morning with my brother and we came across some on the shelf. Comes in 3 sizes and is rather expensive.

Thanks all - that's really helpful. What a task though - we need to start sorting stuff straight away and instead what do we have - yay, Xmas - bring loads of pine needles into the house and chuck them over everything we own!!!! Somehow my yuletide enthusiasm isn't really there this year....
Still, last one with the grandparents (sob sob) so we'll make it a goodie :(
Thanks for all the advice - let the scrubbing commence :?

Thanks Diny - I'll look out for it - the detergent I've been using hasn't shifted all the dirt that I thought it would!

Helga,
After Linda totally put me and Ian off any kind of cleaning duties when we all met up at the north west meet (thanks Linda :nice1 ). We have decided to buy new (rather Ian has ,I wanted to buy new years ago) pieces of equiptment which are on their way out anyway. i.e. lawnmower needed replacing over 2 years but we have struggled on so when we come to emigrate we are going to buy a new one and just take it out of the box.
I know this would be costly for most poeple but to be honest I think our lawnmower is ready to choke up and die. Just a thought for anyone who's stuff might need replacing.

just be aware that although customs tend to be very easy with most migrants that if they notice its new (and the lawn mower is something they are likely to check) whether in the box or not you may be liable to pay duty on it.

just drag it around on the drive and make a few scratches on it. :yes

Right I will remember that.
but I am sure that I read that they are ok with a few new items I suppose they would get tetchy if say you had 10 new lawn mowers. You could always tell them you are buying lots of land :laugh
