Headed across the Tasman for a week... I'm looking for something budget in Brisbane (around $100/night AUD double room) nice enough that security and cleanliness are not issues, but it doesn't have to have a lot of facilities or big rooms. I would, however like it to be fairly central so we could walk around the city from Southbank or the CBD.

Let's Go says that the Explorer's Inn Hotel in the CBD fits my requirements to a T, but it has some pretty bad reviews on Tripadvisor. Frommers suggests the Hotel George Williams. Anyone happened to have stayed at either??

Or do you know of another place?
Thanks for any help!! :D

Hi, we stayed at the central Ibis hotel in Brisbane - we'd used them in Europe before and they are great value, clean and have all you need and they are renowned for being reasonable prices, yet central.

The location was fab and very very central - near to river (we had river views but weren't expecting them!), southbank over the bridge, museums/galleries just over bridge and a 15 wander to the West End eateries. It's also near to transport, shops, casino ;) and a great diggerydoo shop where you can have lessons :nice1

For a food experience check out Tukka (assuming you're not vegetarians!) - we spent an entire evening there and it was fab, I'd love to go again!

LOL then I don't think their menu, especially croc, possum, kangaroo and emu, is up your street then :laugh

The museum is worth a look, as is the lovely cafe in the middle of the Botanic Gardens ;)
