Hi all:
Well, we arrived a week ago yesterday and unlike eagles which soar above it all, have been running around like headless chickens.
The flights over were excellent and problem free with the exception of our oldest son (3) getting sick on the plane. In spite of that, we found travelling with our three children (3, 2, and 1) and pregnant wife to be uneventful--the easiest time we've ever had of it!
In the past week we've purchased a Honda Odyssey, moved into a house in Redcliffs about fifteen minutes walk from our friends and just two minutes from the estuary (across from the yacht club on Main), set up a bank account and telephone/internet, registered with a doctor/clinic and done some shopping. Something we didn't bring in our baggage but wish we had: cheese cutter!
As others have pointed out, we find that we are moving through our cash reserves quite rapidly with all the setups and white goods expenses.
However, we love it. We have apple, pear, peach, and lemon trees in our back yard, as well as stunted Kiwi fruit and some runner beans. Our house is a three bedroom for $295/week which we consider quite reasonable considering location and quality.
I start work today for a half day and then full on this Monday. Thanks to all of you kind and considerately helpful people--it has certainly made the relocation easier. One thing I'm learning is that seldom do things go as poorly as one expects so there is no point in worrying.
