I've trawled the net to locate a decent map of NZ, and think I've found just the ticket.

Try and find a Baedekers paperback book on NZ, they have a poster map inside, with lots of info not sure how current the latest is but I pinned the map on the wall and found a town we liked the name of and searched online for it.
