Hi All,

I have been looking into our medicals and I have an query.

My 5yr old lilltle boy is on a waiting list for an operation to have grommits put in his ears, obvioulsy I have to put this on my form but will this have a major impact on whether we are accepted into NZ or not.

Also, if we are accepted, how do I go about arranging him to have his operation in NZ?

I'm in the States...are grommits the same as "tubes" for chronic ear infections?

If so, don't give it a moment's worry if that's the case as we had bigger issues than chronic ear infections (not huge but not as minor as this).

Consider naturopathic/herbal/homeopathic therapies while on the wait list...you may be able to avoid the procedure altogether. Dairy elimination alone can bring down eustachian tube inflammation enough to help those little ears drain. That coupled with good immune support may do the trick.

Hi I work in the NHS on a day sugery that does grommets and if you speak to yoour consultant nicely via his sec. first, he may squeeze you up the list if there is a cancelation or if not offer a private payment consultation fee this can also make things happen quicker.A nice chat and explanation of the need to emigrate should work though they are quiet sensative if they understand the stress of situation.
You could also ask if the consultants pool list. It may be that one consultant has a 3 month wait and another has a month wait, due to the simplicity of the op you may be able to transfer on t the shorter list, a different person does the operation, but they are all consultants.
Good luck with it. Hope this helps.
Rach.

No, my daughter was also on the waiting list for grommits and to have adenoids removed, and it caused no problems at all. Her ears have been great since we got here, so have not applied for her to have the operation since arriving, but I refer a lot of children because of my job (speech and language therapist) so I know the waiting list here is quite long and some children wait a long time here for them. I think you can queue jump if you go private though.

Thank you all for your advice. I will probably speak to the Consulatant's sec as this is the second time he is having grommits put in. He had his adenoids removed and gromittis fitted in Jan 05 and hasn't helped much.

His hearing is bad so I would prefer to get this sorted before we go.

Thanks

Rachel

Hi All,

Spoke to the hospital about 2 weeks ago and they said they would try and bring my little boy's appointment forward but I have not heard anything. Time is ticking by now, I can not see this happening now.

Another question I have - Asthma is this a major stumbling block? I have had asthma for about 27yrs now and it is controlled by a mild dose of medication I take twice a day. My doctors said my asthma is classed as medium as I take medication to control it. If I didnt it would be classed as mild?

Will they measure your peak flow? The best I have ever been able to do is about 320 and I know that for my age and being a female I should be getting to over 400, but the doctors they measure it on your best ever will this be the same for the medicals?

Can anyone comment whether this will be a problem?
