I've got an HND in Media which I want to claim as my basic qualification, and it's also in a field which counts as a future growth industry (Creative). I work as an editor, so it is relevant to my profession. On the NZQA list of equivalent qualifications they've got a few HNDs listed, but Media isn't on there. Design is, however, which was one of the modules on my course. I'm wondering whether I need to get the full assessment done to have my HND Media recognised when they already recognise an HND Design. Or would a pre-assessment be adequate?

I am low on points as a skilled migrant - between 95 and 105 - so the way I want to do this is to go in on a 6 month tourist visa and then start looking for a job. Once I get an offer, I'll then apply for a work permit which as I understand it gives me the right to remain in NZ for 2 years. What I'm wondering is whether I would need my qualifications assessed to get the work permit, or if the fact that someone has offered me a job would be enough for them to issue it.

You don't need to get your qualifications assessed for a work permit or in order to get a job
Also, if you have enough points for EOI with a job offer but without quals then you wouldn't need to get the quals assessed for PR
Don't waste your money and time with NZQA unless you need to.
