Hi everyone,
I'm a Canadian, married to a Kiwi, and he joined me in Canada for the past 14 years, but last year we decided to come back and test the waters in auckland. We have family in Canada and NZ so thought it was time to reacquaint ourselves with the kiwi side.
I think things are much easier when one of the partnership is a Kiwi, as he immediately went out and got a good job and settled in to a routine, happy to be back with the family and getting all the rugby and cricket he had been deprived of in Canada.
I initially came in as a visitor and then returned to Canada and got my medical, police clearance etc etc etc together and came back and submitted my application from within the country. I am glad I did it this way, Ihad plenty of time to find out all the pros and cons of doing it this way but it turned out to be the easiest way for me. I got my police clearance from the RCMP in one day rather than waiting 2 months as others told me they had to do.
I also had a problem with my X Rays as I had pneumonia years ago and the radiologist wasnt prepared to say if it was an old or new infection so we waited another two weeks and had another one done and he admitted there was no change so it was an old scarring. My doctor also then submitted a letter saying that I definitely did not have an infection and that my breathing, blood etc were all completely normal. I am glad I dealt with that before submitting the Xrays to NZ immigration because as I expected they needed to be convinced all was well.
So I have the work visa and am waiting on my permanent residence.
Well thats my brief story . This is a great forum. I knew I had coem to the right place when I saw the posting about what to do about graham cracker crumbs for the nanaimo bars. Another very important challenge solved!
