Hi,

This is my first post.

I am single mom and don't have relatives in NZ, so EOI will just rely solely on my points. I have filled-up EOI online. I am wondering why i can't get points for my work experience? Does work experience taken in Brunei (not listed as comparable labour market) has something to do? I have been working for almost 7 yrs in an IT company in Brunei? please help

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I think so. However there are exceptions, see here:

Depending on what kind of job in IT you have, and your qualifications, you may be still be able to claim the points if you are also claiming Long Term Skills Shortage bonus points. Check out SM11.10.1.b on the linked page as well. I've no idea how either of those situations are handled in the online EOI though.

I've seen a few people on here get caught out by this one - I really think NZIS should make it clearer on the points indicator document.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

Hi Ces, you mentioned IT. If want to claim bonus points for qualification in an area of absolute skill shortage, e.g., IT, I suggest you get your IT qualification assessed fully by NZQA before submitting your EOI. Be sure that your qualification meets the requirements of the LTSSL. INZ is not particularly generous in believing claims for bonus points. Take note that NZQA is swarmed by applications now and you might be looking at up to 6 months for a full qualification assessment.

Just go to the official NZQA website. Cut-throat expensive at NZ486 to 636 (fast track).

Guys, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I have another query, I have taken up 5-yr Bachelor degree (Engineering) awarded by Mindanao State University - Iligan, Philipppines. Mindanao State University - Marawi City & General Santos City is listed under List of Recognised Qualifications but not Iligan. Is my qualification recognised in NZ? Does anyone encounter situation like this? Thank you.
