As I'm trawling the web for a few people I thought I'd post any "interesting" findings in the areas I'm searching - mainly Canterbury!
Here's a little piece of land, in a great wee village just up the road from us - good price too, but it IS a dinky bit of land.. about 50mins/1hr drive to Chch.

I suppose it's still a 'seller's' market in NZ. IMO, I wouldn't pay half the asking price. Even still, rural property is always far more difficult to unload than in urban areas. (location, location, location?)

As BQ said, Location Location Location is very important, so if the property is well located, it will sell and therefore increase in value.
I know of areas where rural land near cities have increased in value by 250% in the last 3 years, and buyers are still snapping them up ASAP.

Yep, two of our sections (this whole place is still documented in 3) have gone from $50k each to $120k each since we purchased this place just 18 mths ago.
Darfield, 10km nearer Chch, is being sectioned to death and house prices are still on the rise. A house in the town itself is on the market for $600k, and no-one can quite believe it - it's the talk of the bakery! :laugh
