Hi All,
Our ITA is just about to go into immigration and hopefully will have PR very soon, with job offer.
My mother in law said today 'I wish I could come with you'. Its made me think a little bit about if this is possible, she is retired, 75, and has a good pension - her health is excellent and still looks after my kids now and then.
Does anyone know if its possible for her to move to NZ? She wouldnt need to claim benefits etc because of her pension. We would probably buy a property with a seperate building/flat for her.
She says my kids are her life and we would love to give her the option - at the end of the day im leaving the UK for my own reasons, one of those reasons isnt family,
Any advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks Natalie

Hi
There's a few of us shipping our parents over!
You need to have been here for 3 yrs with PR first, then you can start the sponsorship process which reportedly takes around 6 - 9 mths. Your mother will need to apply and have medicals etc.
There are a few threads on this - and Avalon wrote a particularly good timeline for it here: http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8913&highlight=sponsoring+parents
Hope that helps a little.

hi
Moorf i had a look at the link above, so as we arrived in NZ on 20 sept 2004 on work visas got residency in may 2005 does that mean i can start sponsering my mum and dad from sept this year? Mum and dad are here but they are on work visas and my sis is here too with PR and its just me and my sis no other siblings.
Thanks Nicola

If you got residency in May 2005, then you can begin sponsoring your parents from May 2008. We also arrived on visitors visas - in Sept 04 - and we got our PR in March 2005. We can sponsor my parents starting March 2008.
I have been advised many times that NZIS won't accept a sponsorship application for family a minute before the day you got your PR - so no point trying to hurry it through. :no
If your parents are on work visas is there no chance they could go for PR? Will their work visa's be in place until May 2008?

mum and dad can't apply for PR themselves as they are both too old for that route, they are going to have to re-apply for thier work visas again this sept and they have been told that they will get 2 year visas this time so they should see them through till they get PR.
Thanks for answering my question thats what i had thought but the link posted said from when you enter the country
Thanks Nicola

That's great news that your parents are here and can stay for the duration of the application :nice1 - I know my father is keeping his eye out for jobs (flight simulation engineer if anyone knows of any vacancies!!) and they will try the work visa route if necessary.
Can I therefore assume that there is no age limit for obtaining a work visa? I thought it was same as PR for some reason... :o

For those under the three year stage, there is of course the option of parents living in NZ for 6 mths on a visitor visa and then in the uK for 6 months (having 2 summers!).
Could buy a property and rent out for the 6 months they are not there.
Just a thought!

OK now im confused:confused:
Am I understanding this thread right:confused:
My mum and dad can come over to NZ on a work visa dispite being 58yrs old if he can find a job here?
A work visa would hold then for how long? (2 yrs I thought, but seems I compleatly miss interprated this visa).
Does it have to be a job on the skill shortage? or with any special qualifications?
Surly any old job won't do?
Parents are comming out for 5week at xmas, (not a good time for job hunting) but if they still want to move after that then a second job- hunting trip may be in order.
Please help, I'm so confused. I had given up hope of my M&D getting here for at least 3yrs with the current processing times.

I know what you mean, Debbie! Confused here too.
It does appear that they can get a job here, albeit they might have to prove they've advertised here first, and get work visas in the hope that those work visa's will see them through until sponsorship is finalised (and, hopefully, successful).
I'd also like to know if anyone here knows different....

This is my parents' plan when my dad finally retire! Because come out to live here is not ideal for them with two daughter plus three grandchildren live in NZ and a daughter plus two granddaughter live in UK. (sister in UK doesn't want to move to NZ, so my parents is stuck!)

My Dad won't be able to fly back and forth every 6 mths due to circulation probs - so that's not an option for us :no
