Hi - was just wondering. When you did your covering letter for your CV did you explain on there why you are leaving your current country or did you leave it for an interview? I've drafted my husband's letter and it looks really long so wondering what to cut out.

Hi E&C
I dont think its really a big deal what you put in the cover letter as they will ask it all in the interview anyway. I dont think we put any reasons on ours.
Our cover letter was more of an explanation on certain possibly confusing areas in our application, introductions to both of us and our activities we enjoy, and all the research we have done so far (hopefully to let them know that we are very serious). A friend's cover letter basically stated everything that was in their ITA.
I think its an individual thing, dont stress too much!

It's advisable not to say anything about why you want to leave your country. Interestingly enough, I had two 60-minute interviews with my prospective employers and in neither was I asked about why I wanted to leave SA. They're not interested to hear why you want to leave; they just want to hear that you want to stay in NZ!

Hi there.
I posted a copy of our covering letter a few days ago - use the search facility, asking for ITA covering letter and you should find it.
In it, you will find that I have deleted some personal blurb, but that just related to the documents enclosed.
I would advise you to keep it short and sweet.
At this stage, they are more interested in your documentary evidence than the motives behind your proposed move.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

My experience might not be the norm, but I didn't find a cover letter necessary. I worked with several recruiters and no one asked for one, nor did the US-based company (in Wellington) where I eventually went to work.

Sorry, thought you were relating to your ITA......doh.......

employers don't want to see a lot of personal information, just keep it short, it looks much more professional. The danger with too much personal information is it may be deemed inappropriate to the employer, way more than they want to know. As someone said earlier, if they want to know they will ask you but most likely they won't even ask.

It is a different experience for me. I was asked by both employers why I wanted to move from Canada to NZ. They were genuinely curious. I do not read too much into questions like these. The bottom line is you are interested in moving and are willing to take all the required legal and mandated steps to get through the process. Good luck
