Hi all,
I currently live in Blackpool UK, and me and my OH would love to emigrate to NZ. We would gladly move tomorrow, but apart from having to complete my degree and a few other things, we can't for a few years yet. :wah However, hopefully the more time we have to plan, the smoother it will go!
I work in IT and my OH is a Painter & Decorator.
So I'm hoping to get lots of tips from you all and will be more than willing to share any of our experiences and findings with you too!
This site is definately TOP :raebanana

Hi Chadmat and WELCOME to the forum.
As an ex N.W. meeter myself, I strongly advise you to go along to the North West Meets at Mascrat Manor Nr. Warrington.
You'll be surounded by like minded people all willing to share their experiences and knowledge.
Some like yourselves will be just thinking about it and others will be well on the way.
Tell 'em Julie sent you.......:laugh

Thanks Julie, I'll have to look into that, sounds fab! Where do I get more info? What part of NW are you from and where did you move too? Why did you make the move? Presumably you have never looked back?! What is the biggest piece of advice you wish you'd been given?
Hi holland, nearest landmark would be the footy ground! Whereabouts are you planning to move to? What has made you take the plunge?
So jealous of you both!:) I can't wait to finish my degree so we can go and visit for ourselves!

Aye up and ee by gum.....questions, questions, questions !!!
Well I'll try my best to answer them for you - here goes............
Do a forum search for North West Meets....I believe there is one coming up at the end of April. Mascrat Manor, Jnc 21., M6.
Well, I was born and bred in Blackpool (Squires Gate) and moved to Blackburn over 20 years ago. Used to live just off Bloomfield Road too at one point. Finsbury?? Can't remember the road now to be truthful.
We (hubby and I ) now live in Whakatane. It's on the East coast of the North Island about 1 hour (ish) from both Tauranga and Rotorua.
We made the move 'cos our kids have grown up and it's our turn now. And simply because we could.
Oh yes, I'm always looking back - the UK, as well as holding our kids also holds a lot of happy memories for us.
I don't think I would class this next sentence as advice, but someone once said to me that whatever you do today will become tomorrows memories and I have to say, that in our current lives, NZ is certainly creating a lot of memories.

Hi,
Well the list is endless (if you ask my hubby) as to why were taking plunge, my main reasons are that I was born in Blackpool and haven't ventured out of it! I want to see another part of the world, experience different cultures, we would like no mortgage or a very small one, I would like a child and feel NZ would be a better way of life for the child, we like the quiet life...walking, scenery, we live 2 minutes away from the beach here and would like to replicate that there, looking forward to beathing in fresher air!! I could go on, but ultimately, we have toyed with the idea for a couple of years, and now weve dont that, we had to come as we didnt want to spend our lives thinking 'what if'. We are both 6-5 people, who have got stuck in paying mortgage, tea,tv, bed, work, paying mortgage etc etc...and we are young enough to just give it a go and see what heppens.
I have been looking for jobs, mainly around the coast, so we'll just see what happens, I would be willing to move anywhere over there initially as long as we had some kind of incomes, but the east coast would be the ideal, due to beaches, weather.
Good Luck with whatever you decide to do
J and G
PS- Your degree will fly by, it willbe over before you know it!!

Quite correct Julie. There is one on 28th April at 1.00 p.m. It will be our last one as we will be making the move over to NZ at the beginning of May! We will be the first to sign the new flag. :p

Julie,
Sorry for all the questions, whilst I'm very IT literate, I've only just discovered the fun of forums, and the novelty of being able to meet lots of different people (who so far are very friendly :) ) is very high and my usual shyness is nowhere in sight!

If it was Finsbury Avenue, that is not far from me at all! How strange, I was born in Blackburn but moved to Blackpool, well Ansdell, when I was 2 (over 20 years ago, :laugh ) !!
Oh, and thanks for the further info on the meet, I hope I can go, I'm certainly going to try!:nice1
Holland, Thanks I can't wait for it to be over! But you are right, time flies, before I know it, degree completed and i'll be boarding that plane too! Oh and of course, Good luck to you too!
Pinkpiggy - hopefully I'll get to meet you then before you go, if not all the best for May and beyond.
