Now don't laugh anybody but this is getting serious  No really I mean it. Has anybody else had this problem? I have to take a sample, by today, of my cat's unmentionable motions to send off to be analysed for hookworm.

He has been locked in the house since Saturday morning but refuses to perform. He has been used to going outside and hasn't used a cat litter tray since he was a kitten. Has anybody any ideas of what I can do to encourage him. I keep plonking him on the litter and he will have a tinkle (does that sound twee  ) but nothing more. I've even gone out and dug up soil to put on top of the cat litter - but that didn't work. Anybody give me any advice - the vet can't. I could have a bursting cat at any moment. :?

Hi

Have you tried a very small amount of tuna fish in oil. Just a little bit of the oil can work wonders, but do not give them to much as the result could be quite disastrous.

My partner Peter has just suggested that we could send you some of our cats as it seems to have loads and loads and loads. :?

Thanks Nicola

I'm reaching for the can opener now.

Good luck hope it works, but be prepared.

SUCCESS - I can't believe it after all this waiting :D and no huge explosion. He was still licking his lips when I plonked him on the cat litter again.

Thank you so much from a grateful pet-owner and a grateful Moxie who is now free to roam the neighbourhhod again until 6th Sept. when we have to repeat the whole procedure. At least I know what to do now. The worst bit was getting the stuff into the narrow little pot they send you. Yuck. Sorry, maybe a little too much information for people here.

This forum is brilliant - any problem solved instantly :)

Thanks again Nicola

Glad to be of assistance.

Though I hope I will not go down in history as the woman who knew how to get a cat to perform.

Well done, the forum is obviously the place for information.

We have 2 adult cats both already neutered with all vaccines up to date. Any idea what sort of cost we would be looking at to bring them with us? Would like to bring, but not sure if re-homing in UK would be better for them?

Thanks

Hi Abbie

The cost for sending my cat with Golden Arrow is £832. Sadie, who seems to have disappeared since the old forum collapsed, was quoted £1,172 for two cats by Airpets Oceanic.

Golden Arrow are really helpful and seem to care a lot about the animals. They even build the crates to suite each individual animal. The only thing you have to do, if not already done, is to have the cats chipped. They take care of everything else and it is all included in the quote. They ask you to take the cats to Shropshire but they will collect them if that is difficult for you. May be an extra charge for that but I'm not sure. The only thing I've had to do up to now, as you know from my post  is collect the samples and post them to the lab.

Would you believe that collecting the sample for 6th Sept was even harder than collecting the first sample. He escaped twice and I posted the sample 2 days after the deadline. It's amazing how difficult it is to keep a cat in that is used to roaming at will.

I'm taking him to Shropshire on 15th and he flies out on 19th with ANZ via LA. I'm going the other way via Singapore. I hope he doesn't hate me for too long afterwards but he will have a nice big garden to make up for it. :D

To Dave & Sandra

Form many experiences of cats - they have a sixth sense about things like this. I have learnt not to say the VET word but they both still disappear the day of their jabs!!!

Hi, Sandra,

Apart from being unable to resist reviving this thread, I just had to ask... did puss make it all right??

I did remember to wave as he passed overhead (and quite a bit to the south!!!)!!

All the best, Rae

Hi Rae

Moxie's fine. Dave picked him up at the airport and Moxie knew him straight off, even though he hadn't seen him for 4 months - cats have short memories.

He has escaped twice up to now - Dave keeps forgetting to shut the doors, but he has always come back safely. I hope we don't get a MAF inspector around just to make sure we are keeping him in for the 30 days. :hopeso

He made an escape this evening just before Dave and I went out to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I was worried about what would happen when he tried to get in while we were not here. Dave said it's OK just leave a door open for him :eek Seems that you can do that here in Feilding without worrying about being burgled. So we did that and when we got back he was there looking anxious as if to say 'Where have you been abandoning me like that' :laugh

He's supposed to stay in the house until 20th October, it's going to be very hard. He yowls constantly to be let out. I wonder if MAF do visit???? :wah

Cheers - Sandra

Our cats Bobbins, Roger & Molly are staying in the UK when we come over (come over - it sounds like we're just crossing the Pennines on the M62 to Leeds).

Its sad but Roger & Molly are like a battling couple and don't want to splity them up, Molly wont survive we think, she vomits going to the cattery before we have left the estate.

Bobbins, will cry continuously - and because they only drink rain water all three of them will be dehidrated.

And we'd be mortified if any of them brought a native NZ animals guts into the kitchen :eek

:wah We left our baby, a huge ginger tom called Grumps, with our friends in the UK - just couldn't bear him to have to undergo the flight etc - but we chat to him regularly :laugh and he's even sent us postcards!!

Clever kitty huh!

Just hope he doesn't get the hump when he finds out we want a dog! :eek

What sort of dog? I'm desperate for a Great Dane when we get to NZ and since Mrs Yogi will be full time Mum it should be practical too, she somehow things a Labrador might me more practical.

Didn't see many dogs when we toured NZ. What sort of dogs do other people have?

Cheers,

Yogi.

Hi Raeven from sunny Nelson.
Our two best beloved cats made it here safely and well.
Even TylerBaBa wonderous siamese cross that has a major Vet problem, and carrier box phobia, that hates all others but Phil and me - who vomits and pees as a useful sign of protest to disruption in his life ; who also refused to "perform" for the faecal tests and hid under the bed for days making scarey yowling ear piercing screeches every time we approached our own bedroom - made it!
HollyCat was in the local rag here.
Both travelled extremely well, and have settled quickly.
We used Airpets and can't fault the service in any way.

The Bevs!!! How loverly to see you here!! I'd hoped you'd made it well and happy over to Nelson, and it's great to see you have. LOL, sounds like everyone is settling in in their own way.. cats are so funny, but not so funny when you're going through it and chasing after that fecal test, I reckon...

Would love to hear more of your adventures, and especially your impressions of Nelson. Has it lived up to your hopes and dreams? Never mind; if it hasn't, I know you'll make it everything you need. :smile

I'm intrigued... how did HollyCat merit such coverage? Sorry I missed it!!

Thanks for sharing how your temperamental feline chums weathered the voyage. I'm sure it will put many minds at ease!!
