Hi there
Anyone know what we would need to do?
Arriving in Wellinton next month (7 months pregnant). We will have submitted our ITA and my Hubby will be working on a work permit whilst they process residency - we don't think we will be issued residency by the time the baby's born.

How do we register the birth?
Whats the process?
do we need to follow a special process if we don't have residency?

help!
(so much to think about!)

It looks pretty straightforward:
http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Births-Deaths-and-Marriages-Register-a-Birth-Death-Marriage-or-Civil-Union?OpenDocument#one

but remember:
From 1 January 2006, children born in New Zealand (or in the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau) will acquire New Zealand citizenship at birth only if at least one of their parents:

is a New Zealand citizen; or
is entitled to be in New Zealand indefinitely in terms of the Immigration Act 1987(ie a residence permit holder or Australian citizen); or
is entitled to reside indefinitely in the Cook Islands, Tokelau or Niue.

there's more info about that here:

When our child was born here they gave us documents to register her with...although her father is a Kiwi so that gave her citizenship. I also registered her with the US and got the forms from the consulate website.
