Well started to get some cash etc together, was hoping to open a NZ account before i come out, but looking like thats not going to happen in time.
So i was about to order some Amercian Express Cheques and am unsure what to get?

As most websites to order them say cant be done in NZ$, most recommend getting Australian Dollers Cheques.

Can anyone confirm best currency to get cheques in? Upon arriving in Auckland i will be most likely to open an account then and deposit the cheques at that time.

Thanks

if it is just cash for use in nz that you need, why not use your debit card in the ATM machines in NZ. You get a good rate of exchange and no worries about cash.
If it is transfers of cash for your new account do a search for earlier threads on this topic

If your signature is correct, you still have a couple of months to open an account in New Zealand and transfer some money, which is plenty of time. Mine (at Westpac) took a couple of weeks to set up, and I activated it the day after I arrived.

However, if you are sure you need traveller's cheques, I think you will lose out on conversion rates if you buy a currency other than UK pounds or NZ$. So if you can't get NZ$, just get them in pounds.

But as was said above, ATMs are really abundant here, so I would recommend not bothering with traveller's cheques at all.
