We live in Carnoustie Scotland and are about 3-4 weeks away from sumitting our application to NZI. Hubby has a job offer in the Hutt Valley and we would appreciate any info from people already living in the area. We have 2 children 8& 9 years and are really looking forward to moving to NZ.

Caz & Patrick:)

Can't say i know anything about Hutt Valley, but try and catch Tonyb as he is down that area. With that said i'm sure someone will be in touch with you soon enough who is from that locality.

In the meantime Welcome to our world.

Hello there. Living in the Hutt Valley could be compared to living in Carnoustie but with Edinburgh being a 20 minute drive away.

Best of both worlds, perhaps.

New Zealand and Scotland really are very similar, it seems.

I think you'll find the Hutt Valley a good place, in terms of housing choices, selection of restaurants/shopping/other services (in central Hutt City and even Upper Hutt City) and access to recreation spots like the Belmont Park Preserve (trails and waterfalls) and Hutt River parkway (jogging/bike path that winds for miles along the river). If you like country living you might consider Akatawara -- easily the prettiest spot I've rented in since coming to Wellington. If I can figure out how, I'll attach pictures in another post --

Hi there,

The Hutt's a great place to live, plenty going on and good house prices/schools etc etc - we've lived in Upper Hutt for over a year and really like being away from Wgtn, but still in commuting distance (takes me 30 mins in a morning, but that's by motorbike!).

There are some really nice suburbs around, and if you're working in the Hutt you could go somewhere more remote like Akatawara/Whitemans Valley/Mangaroa and still only be 20 mins to work - Western Hills of Lower Hutt are nice too (as is the Eastbourne side) - let me know if you want any info!

Other people have said how similar NZ is to Scotland, probably why we are attracted to NZ. If it is Carnoustie with Edinburgh 20 minutes away that would be great, we like living in the countryside but have the facilities of a city a short drive away.:cheers

Its good to be on board, how are you finding life in NZ, Perthshire is a lovely county as is Angus, what made you want to move? For us its taking a chance in a lifetime, job offer etc, lifestyle to name 3 reasons, giving our kids a bit of adventure certainly one they will remember for a long time.:nice1
