I've just agreed a contract with JM.On reading the recent threads regarding the agent pirates(my opinion) I'm getting worried. Then today I received an important notice about MAFF inspections on suspect items (meat/meat products/gardening tools etc) that may have come into contact with dirt. This is apparently what their DESTINATION AGENT is saying and that is the liklihood of extra charges due to extra manpower used. This was not said to me when I spoke to JM yesterday & my suspicious nature is in overload. Our shipment is booked for 30/4 & it seems odd to me that the recent spate of threads about overcharging by an agent used by JM and this alert from what may be the same agent has appeared.I intend to send an em to MAFF NZ but anyone out there who knows about this, please please tell the forum & me what we can do. Anyone else in the same boat (OH sorry about the pun)

Hi Victoria. I posted a reply to this where you mentioned it on the "MAF fees" thread. Since then I've gotten the MAf website to come up, and there are no new releases on their biosecurity page about foot and mouth (http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/pest-and-disease-response/pests-and-diseases-watchlist/foot-and-mouth-disease). So as I said in my other post I would ask them why they are bringing this up after you signed when in fact MAF has been routinely checking for signs of F&M for years...

Sorry you're having this hassle.

Just make sure all your stuff is cleaned with jeyes fluid - my hubby brought over 2 huge mowing machines, called scags, a trailer, two small honda mowers, loads of spades forks etc, we had bikes, kids garden toys etc, loads of engineering equipment, welders, we also had a box containing foodstuff and bottles of alchohol, we made made sure everything was pressure washed, steam cleaned and washed down with jeyes fluid, we had NO problems with any of our stuff.

Just try and remember all MAF are doing is trying to protect the country and envirnment that you have chosen to live in, so sometimes it may seem like a hassle, but at the end ofthe day its for all our benefits!

Good luck and I would try and email MAF, we did about a few things and always got replies - which incendently I printed off and brought with us as proof should anyone query some of the stuff!!

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for quick replies. I have emailed MAFF on this & will print off their reply. My main concern though is the liklyhood that the agent may try to squeeze extra charges on this.On following the saga of MAFF charges on another thread by an agent I just don't fancy a battle ahead on top of the stress of moving in the first place.Oh well " onto the breech . . ." as they used to say.
