We finally took the big leap and put in our EOI. Got selected at 110 points, no job offer less than 2 weeks later. So obviously things are hopping over at NZIS, at least at the first stages.

Mel is still interviewing for work as we think that would be the best way in the New Zealand door way. He has an interview next week for the CEO of Yachting New Zealand. It is a long shot, but what a interesting job that would be.

We went over to New Zealand in November for a few weeks to make our final decision, and it was amazing how many people would actually meet with my husband based on just a phone call. People seemed quite keen to help and provide networking contacts, if not a job.

This is certainly not the norm in the US. So my suggestion is to do some active networking if you are seeking work in NZ, don't hesitate to pick up the phone and ask for a meeting with someone who may be able to give you some assistance. Kiwis seem pretty open to providing help.

Anyway, I am assuming it will be number of months before the PACKET arrives, unless Mel gets a job offer prior to that point. We have a house to sell and pack up. Heaven knows what we are going to do with all our stuff- don't want to haul it from rental house to rental house. Does anyone have a take on storage costs in Auckland or CC area?

Let me ask you your opinion, does Auckland seem incredibly expensive as a place to live based on the average salaries offered in NZ? It does to me!

I can't say we have been thrilled with the maximum salaries offered for executives, but we are paying for the lifestyle, right??? Fortunately, I was prepared for salary shock by this forum so we knew what to expect.

I don't know what is sustaining the housing and rental prices in that area, unless it is all foreign investors or us foolish Americans who come over and over pay for property!

Anyway, we are excited to see some progress, and look forward to joining our fellow expats sometime in 2005.

Cheers,

Wendy
