So, Northland looks like a great place to live, and the various councils and government agencies seem to be really keen on having people go and live there. Slight problem is that there don't seem to be any IT jobs at all... or am I missing something? :confused:

Realistically you need to be in AKL/WGTN/CHCH!

I know it's not an obvious destination, but there's government, educational establishments, hospitals and the like. They're IT users, so I wondered why I'm not finding any links. Just advertise locally maybe?

If it's anything like round our small local town the jobs that are available in such sectors such as I.T, admin etc rarely come available and when they do they are snapped up. Often you'll find jobs rarely even get advertised as they are filled by word of mouth.

Because of their relatively high pay compared with other jobs in rural areas they tend to be highly prized positions for people who currently commute and want to cut out the travel.

Hubby is in I.T and I know we'd have loved to have lived somewhere like Wanaka or Nelson but the jobs he needed just weren't available there so the job dictated our location to a certain extent, not vice versa.

Just some thoughts.

Which particular towns are you looking at, perhaps someone could give you more an idea of they live locally?

If you are looking for IT jobs.. Auckland / Wellington are the places..
