Hi there
Can anyone answer this query ?!

We are flying our on 24th May, we will submit our completed ITA to London before we leave - hubby has interviews lined up so we are planning on not returning to the UK.
So, we have had quotes for shipping our belongings - and decided to go with Pickfords. They said they require certain documents from us before they can ship the container - one of which is our Visa's - which we won't have

Any ideas what we need to do ? Will we have to leave the goods in storage until we get residency ?

If you don't have Visa's, you will be liable to pay import duty (I think). Our Visa is expected at the end of the week but our shippers are in the house now - we have to put it in storage for a couple of weeks.

We're in a similar position. Movers are coming next week & we fly out 17 May.OH is to get a WP a.s.a.p on arrival(has job waiting) and then we'll contact movers with the visa info. From the advice given to me, you may be liable for import duty but will be refunded when you have the correct visa.As cargo is 6 to 8 weeks, we've instructed to send out right away with the assumption we'll have our visa way before it arrives.Looks good on paper anyway.
Hope this helps

can I ask a question..
how much is the import tax and how do they calculate it.. plus... has anyone done it this way (shipped before visa) and then had tax refunded?
We are currently looking into shipping and I suppose we should work out best / cheapest way eg. pay for storage until have visa then ship or ship and pay import tax

We have a nine month visa, granted today. :raebanana We were on the understanding that if the Work Visa is less then 12month old we would be liable for import duty.

Anyone know if this is right???
Thanks

Jo
