Hi all

Well after many, many days and hours spent searching the internet for flights etc.... we have finally booked our trip to NZ for a month in July :raebanana All made possible because our house sold within 4 days and believe it or not to a guy from NZ (altough he has been in the UK for several years now).

Flying with Singapore Airlines: (thanks to all recommendations on this site)

We leave Glasgow 2nd July to London
London to Singapore (arrive Singapore 3rd July)
Staying in Singapore for 2 nights :yes
Singapore to Auckland 5th July
Return to UK via 1 night in Singapore 31st July

We are so excited about this trip - however, I am wondering what to do about my fear of flying and how we will occupy our 3 year old

Just want to thank this forum for all the wonderful help and advice on planning a reccy trip and hope I can post all my photos when we get back!

Congratulations lisa - bet you are excited :raebanana
I wouldn't worry to much about 3yr old, especially if going with Singapore Air - they really are fantastic and will help you tremendously if you ask. Plus the fantastic entertainment system helps keep kids occupied. Our kids also got given free toys, activity packs etc - but they hardly touched them on plane as too busy! My 4yr old enjoyed Dora, Blue, Spongebob etc plus a couple of kids films, then listening to kids music. The hardest bit was she fidgets a lot whilst sleeping, so although she dropped off to sleep ok , she kept waking up and couldn't really get comfy despite being stretched accross two other people! I also kept getting her up and walking her about a bit to relieve any boredom of just sitting. But overall - she (and all the other kids on our flight)were brilliant.

Cannot say much on the topic of your fears - am sure someone else can help - but maybe some hypnotherapy and take a relaxation tape to listen to?

or just keep focused on why you are on a plane eg where you are going ;)

Good luck

Agree that the flight is not nearly as bad as we expected with a 3 year old (plus 8 and 11 yr old). The movie screen is good, the little walks up and down, trips to the loo, regular food - we asked for snacks as mine all seemed to miss a meal at some point, and regular drinks in between sleeps , all helps the time pass.
Almost enjoyable!

Thanks for the replies and reassurance regarding the flight. We are very excited about the whole trip if only I could stop worrying about the flight :uhoh..... I also don't want to transfer my fear to the wee one. Might try those herbal calms and by the sounds of it the wee one and other half will love the entertainment on board!

Thanks again

I 'm a nervous traveller but someone once told me to remember that .......the pilot and crew don't want to crash/die either .... sounds bizzare - but somehow it helps me to relax a bit as I hadn't thought about it that way.

Also can get some really good herbal relaxants from Changi airport - can't remember what they are called but not Kalms.

Thanks for the advice - I will probably have to be careful what I take because the wee one will keep us so busy, might have to grin and bear it quite literally!!!
I will try very hard to remember what you said -makes sense really. I think I have to stop reading about flights and flying on the internet lots of knowledge isn't always a good thing :no

Hi Lisa

So excited for you...I'm sure you will be so pre occupied with thoughts of your trip it will soothe any nerves you may have. :yes
I find it helps to write stuff down in a journal, during a long flight - plans etc, where you might visit. It's great to look back on when you get home too!

Where are you staying in Singapore?

Regards
Lesley:)

Hi LesleyS

We are not too sure where in Singapore we are staying because Trailfinders have to confirm a few details with us - calling us back tomorrow. Think it will be Singapore Excelsior?? any views?

In NZ we are very lucky because my OH cousin is going away on business whilst we are on our reccy so we are staying in his house and having use of his car etc - brilliant for us :nice1 and very kind of OH family in NZ.

My OH has a good few family members in NZ so we will be hooking up with them and they will hopefully show us around!
