Happy Anzac Day!

Well it looks like we going for a trip to NZ early next year,:raebanana
(sorry i think that banana guy is cool, small things.... I know!)

Anyway, Thai air seems very reasonable (and I can also spend a few days in Thailand to visit my aunt, cousin and new baby!). Was just wondering if anyone else had flown with them and what they thought?

Also considering hiring a motorhome as seems the easiest way to see the most places - figure don't have to keep packing and unpacking which is a big bonus!! Has anyone got any views whether or not this is the best way? Maybe it is not as practical as it sounds?

If anyone has any tips/ideas/suggestions at all will be very greatful as we have no idea what we going to do when we are there yet - apart from obviously wanting to make the most of our time over there and see as much as possible!

So excited!!:raebanana

I flew Thai from Auckland to Bangkok in Feb and had no problems. They had good in seat entertainment and even managed to get my vegetarian meal right. I really enjoyed Bangkok but spent most of my time on Koh Samui which I would highly recommend.

Have also flown Thai Air and would certainly recommend. Every bit as good as Singapore Air IMO.

now you've had some Thai air comments (which I cannot give!) I'll comment on motorhomes - we hired one for eleven days to take us from Auckland to Christchurch . Was fantastic and would thoroughly recommend, although I'd upgrade to a slightly better one as ours was VERY basic. We have three kids and the thought of a different night in a different motel unpacking each time just didn;t do it for me - so we went for camper option for part of the holiday and then hired a holiday home as a base in C'church from which we toured and did day trips. This worked well for us. Are you looking at anywhere in particular for researching or just a general trip?
All the campsites we stayed in were excellent (erm, except one in Welly - read my post!) and had fantastic facilities.
I'd go for it!

Thank you all for your help so far! Please continue!:nice1

Howie/Susan - guess where my cousin lives - koh samui!!! Glad to hear its nice, she says so but is obviously biased!

Vixanne - Haven't got anywhere particular in mind yet (could change by the time I go!), but basically we want to see everywhere so we don't rule out somewhere that we'd love to move too! I also have a relative that has recently moved to Auckland so want to start/finish there, but that is as far as I have got!

I have to say that the North Island appeals the most in the research I've done so far. I love the sound of Northland but it doesn't look like there is a need for IT staff there so far which would be a problem!

Are there any good websites with all the different campsites in? Are you better off booking or can you just turn up?

Thanks again!

We just turned up at campsites no booking needed - that was March/April - I believe if you go in Dec/Jan you should book as its main NZ summer hols.

I see you are in Blackpool - are you able to come to the North West Meet on saturday? Its in warrington - theres a post about it in the Meet Ups section

Its great to get together with other like minded people and swop news and views - you can learn loads:nice1

Vixanne,
We are going Jan or Feb or March!!! (or that is the plan to date)
Jan is most convenient as is my only month off from studying, but costs more, February is our wedding anniversary and cheaper - and March is my 30th but can't get prices yet! So probably go Feb/Mar and do some studying on the plane! Which leads to more questions, when in everyones opinion is the best time to go, is it worth paying more? How easy is it to get internet access when travelling around?

As for Saturday, we are hoping to, but OH is working in the morning so depends what time he gets home! Fingers crossed. What time does it 'finish' on Saturday? - just want to know at what point it is not worth trying to get there!

Howie, thanks for the photo! - my cousin said she'd send me some - still waiting - typical! lol How did you get from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

March / April was good - not too busy at all and still nice weather. We were restricted to school hols , if I had a choice I'd go for earlier in March.

On saturday... last time we stayed until 5pm ish I think . Hard to say but come along if you can :D
