Hi All
we were wondering if anyone had any experience with doing their medicals in the cambridge area,UK.We are just about ready to submit our EOI anytime now. Are there any other alternatives locally.we are fit and well with no medical issues that we know of, though I am aware that occasionally some blood results may be slightly out of range, not necessarily indicating illness.BTW how much should we expect to pay for the medicals assuming no extra tests are necessary.
I think the amount of information that one can get from these forums is phenomenal and all credit to everyone in these forums.
cheers:)

Hi Rav, I previously lived in North Herts, not too far from Cambridge. I believe there is a panel doctor in Cambridge, but I chose to go to London to have mine done. It cost £220 excluding the x-ray which I had at a hospital near where I worked. I read some bad reports on another forum about the doctor in Hitchin, who would have been closer to me.
In the end the Harley St doc was a good choice, as he had a call to do after my appointment and rushed through my medical, so I was allowed to just state my own weight and height. Just as well, as my waist measurement is close to the limit for more tests ;)

Check out this thread:

or any others found by searching for medicals.
Costs vary throughout UK but seem to be cheaper in North England so it can pay to shop around, even covering the costs of transport and accommodation

Hi Rav,
We had our medicals in Cambridge in October 06. Approx £575 then. We didn't need extra blood tests.
I had a liver result that was a little out of range and we had to chase them to get an explanation of what that meant, but otherwise it was ok, and results came back quickly.
I had a re-test for my liver done at my GP for free.
Good luck
Dave

is it mandatory to get the bloods and xray done with the panel doctor,or could one do it through the GP/local hospital.
Dave, Was the explanation of the liver test given by the panel doctor, accepted by NZIS, and did you repeat the liver tests for your own benefit or was it asked by them(NZIS)

Hi Rav,
You have to have the full tests done with the panel doctor as part of the immigration procedure. I was asked to get a re-test for my liver by our case officer just to check it wasn't a concern.
I had the re-tests done for free between Christmas and new year and they came back quickly. Luckily they had gone down and were accepted. I also asked the GP to write a quick assessment of the results as I had a course of malaria tablets that could have affected the results.
Good luck
Dave
