Hi all

we are 2 + 1 boy 16

is 40k enough to live & save, if we have most exp. paid for (furnished rent + full utilities, phone. digital sky + unlimited broadband),

Your opinion please.

We stand a chance on the offer above. With this in view, we will not need our own furniture & other equip. to start new life but we are planning to have our own place say in 2 yrs time.
I will like to know if you have a delay to move your personal belongings after you immigrate to NZ and still be duty & tax free.

cheers

Start by checking out this thread which will let you know your take home pay:

www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?p=127699#post127699

Then maybe check out this site and do a weekly shop and deduct it from your $NZ pay:

www.foodtown.co.nz

Write down any extra expenses you have that aren't covered and try to estimate some figures. Do you want to save, go on holiday, trips back, clothes , eating out etc etc?

Also consider how it compares to your current pay, is it a 10% paycut or a 40% pay cut? How do you feel about taking a 10% - 40% paycut in your lifestyle?

Check out Avalon's money thread:

www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9357

And finally when you've got a bit of time to spare use the search facility to look through some old threads, there have been several threads posted on "how much is enough?", none of them will exactly mirror your situation but they should give you a starting point.

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers

Tia

If you don't have to pay rent, utilities etc out of that then I would think anyone but the most indulgent could manage quite nicely here on $40K and save a little. Depends upon what your current lifestyle and expectations are for New Zealand.

My OH & I would spend approx 36k per year without the 16 year old, so I would think with the benefit of most of your expenses being paid, you will have no problems. I was working in Auckland a few years ago with a similar package and it certainly was 'helpful'.

Don't know if it help.. but we are just barely able to LIVE off that (just 2 people in a tiny flat with simple lifestyle)... so your option sounds to just like doubling our income since won't have much outoing expenses, sounds very doable! Wish I knew how to sign up:)

Hi there..
I believe it all depends what kind of lifestyle you want to live. If all the expenses like rent and furniture, telephone and sky and also internet are paid you really are in a good position:nice1
Hope hubby had that package from company!!!
