Have asked this on another post of mine but I think its been missed. could really do with some info and experience if anyone has done it this way...

We were just wondering.. rather than get shippers into pack up then pay to store container in UK until we've arrived in NZ, found work and got work visas etc and then got stuff shipped (ie. be without our stuff for AGES) - can we ship it beforehand and pay tax - does anyone know how the amount of tax is calculated and if they do refund when you get your visas?

Just thinking we'd have our stuff quicker and maybe save by not having to pay UK storage fees whilst we get sorted out.

if you do a forum search this has been covered several times before in detail. the gist is they hold a bond as I understand it.

I've had a look through previous posts (and Customs website) and found some detail but still a lot of gaps eg. Cannot find any info regarding the refund given once you get residency. Also could do with hearing if anyone has done it this way successfully.
