Leading on from Moorf's suggestion, thanks Moorf.

I'm going to start a bach review page to go alongside the Top 10 sites.

We've stayed in quite a few since being here and it's great to stay in a variety of houses rather than cabins especially when sometimes it can be cheaper.

Definitely recommend The Lakehouse at Lake Rotehu, the house only had a double bed in but the sleepout had accommodation for up to four kids. Great lake views and dogs are welcome outside. If any one wants any further details PM me.

We also stayed in Anuara Bay, Beach Bach. Lovely big house with views straight out over the sea. Great for a summer get away with all mod cons. Definitely planning a return visit for some time out. The nearest shop and town is about half an hour away, Tolaga Bay.

We've stayed in a bach in Waiterere and Taupo. Taupo was really lovely and quiet small but perfect for a weekend. Waiterere was great also for a short stay.

Has anyone got any hidden bach gems ? :nice1

Hi

Do I have to share our hidden gems - means we might not get in cos all you lot will be booking it!!!LOL:laugh :laugh

Oh well - here goes - Purau Bay Just a 1 lane road away from the beach - stony but beautiful - we saw one of the Container ships sail by in the distance from Lyttelton.

A very quiet area - place we stayed at slept 8 easily.

Cant find it on the website when I just had a quick look - may be looking with my eyes closed:roll will post details later if I find it again.

GORE BAY WOW - what can I say - we had the most gorgeous house just across the road from the calmest sea - great long walks, they had a campsite there too!! Most of Gore bay are holiday homes - if you are on the seafront I dont think you could go wrong!!

This is the bach we stayed in near Abel Tasman:
www.orchardview.co.nz
and we liked it alot. It sleeps 4 - a double bed in 1 room, and bunks in another. It was basic but homely, and the owner is nice too. There are a pair of keas that sometimes come down to the veranda and peck the chairs. We paid $110 a night at Easter. It's in a kiwi orchard in a lovely peaceful valley, sound of the river nearby.

To warn you this place, 126 Hanmer springs road (http://www.alpineholidayhomes.co.nz/site/page_holidayhomes/area_3/), is revolting and disgusting:uhoh :no
I am very disappointing about it as it was suppose to very nice last holiday break for my MIL to spent with us before she return back to UK after 6months stay with us.

We stayed there on saturday and made complaint to company about this house next day. Two ladies was at office to made offical complaint against this house too while we were there!!! They stayed a night before us...so far they haven't take off the list yet.

Err... its not a bach but we loooooved this place: www.bluewatercottages.co.nz

The views from the hot tub were fantastic and its not too far to some fab beaches. One of the photographs is a bit out of date now in that the two cottages that look like they have shared access to a hot tub now have a private hot tub each!

These were the ones we stayed at last November 2007

Tauranga Area http://www.cottagestays.co.nz/blue_gum/cottage.htm

This was really fab has its own jacuzzi for 5 people great after a long day out. Wonderful if you want a quiet and peaceful weekend away.

Paihia, Bay of Islands http://www.abri-accom.co.nz/

This was a great find, a little on the expensive side but well worth it.

Te Puru Coromandel there was a house/cottage/bach place that we booked for 6 nights in Te Puru called Sea View ....... whatever you do dont bother we turned up no keys for us we had to chase around after making calls to the owners in Auckland to finally get into what can only be described as a dump. Smell of damp, duvet covers and pillow cases that hadnt been changed for months. We didnt even stay there we cut and ran to a motel further towards Thames which was really good called:
http://www.stayatcoastal.co.nz/motorlodge.html. We had 3 nights there then went off to Auckland to stay with relatives which worked out really well in the end.

Not going to provide the one that we will be staying in for a couple of months when we move there though will give that one up when we have used it again ourselves. It was the first place we stayed at when we arrived in NZ and although a Lockwood House, creeks and groans a lot with the changes in temperature, it was in a really good position straight across from the Pacific Ocean with a wonderful sandy beach. Abosolute Heaven.

Thats my lot for the time being.............:cheers

Friends of ours stayed at Dry Paddocks - between Kaikoura and Christhchurch - they've highly recommended it.

Well we've just got back from the South Island. Good time but no real holiday for me as I ended up cooking for all of us most nights :uhoh

The place in Lake Ohau we stayed was just stunning, highly recommend it as it was quiet peaceful and well equipped. Would be amazing in winter time when you can use the ski field there as well.

Cromwell was a 1960's house in a housing estate. It was fine for the one night, don't really need any longer in Cromwell as there's not much there :D

The Queenstown house was nice but lots of problems, all of which didn't spoil the holiday but it was a bit of let down when we thought we were getting some thing with a bit of a luxury feel. At least it was cheaper than some of the other properties in Queenstown itself :o
