After a three week RV journey across America, my husband, four year old daughter, two Newfies, and I finally arrived in Wellington. We had a bit of a hold up in Auckland as my husband forgot about an apple he had stashed about a week ago in the bottom of his backpack while we hiked at the Grand Canyon.
We are currently staying in Ngaio for a month while we look for a house to rent. The first few days have already been busy with researching banks, looking for a car, and getting acquainted with the shops. I have an interview Monday in Porirua with Captial & Coast DHB for a social work position.
So far we haven't been able to find sliced meunster cheese (or any muenster cheese, for that matter) at the deli counter.
We have visited the dogs everyday and they are well settled into Shado-Lans. What a wonderful facility.
Is Wellington always this damp?

Is Wellington always this damp? Unfortunately it's not the best time to come ... The dry season is Feb - May and then it's all downhill :o

Just wrote a post and deleted it!!! Quick then, have not seen muenster cheese here but try moore wilsons and what ever ethnic food shop representing the place where it come from (germany?).
In Ngaio (or elsewhere), damp will be worst in shady areas and lower in the valley so depends where you are. Inside, I have found we have more condensation this time of year for a month or so as we run the heat and dry out the house, it seems to get better here as the season progresses.
Good luck settling in, we have a 4 year old daughter and live next to you in Khandallah so feel free to PM me if she needs some play time.

Stuff that's sold in the US as "Muenster" really isn't that, tis a smooth and creamy and very mild cow's milk cheese. There are many such cheeses available at NZ supermarkets, though they don't have that distinctive orange rind.
Welcome!

Congratulations on getting here safely & good luck with settling in! Shado-lans is really wonderful - I think quarantine was harder on us than on our dogs.
I'm trying to cope with our damp apartment for another couple weeks until we move into our centrally-heated house. Yesterday I had to put rice in my salt shakers because the salt had taken up so much moisture it wouldn't pour any more

What do you do to keep your cereals, pretzels and chips crisp?
It's good to hear this is just temporary. We've been to Welly twice before for short stays and never had this level of dampness. We're running the dehumidifier 24/7.

If you can't eat them all in one sitting (and I never do), you can get some containers from the supermarket. I use the Systema ones, which have a clicking lid system, but there are loads of other types - often really cheap in the Warehouse or Briscoes.

Welcome to NZ. Glad to hear the dogs made it OK. I'm glad you're able to visit them and tell them all about how much they will enjoy NZ.
Good luck with all of the settling in.
