Well, after many days of waiting on tenterhooks to see if our offer on the 7.6 hectares of land has been accepted, and putting our offer up quite a bit, we've decided we're sick of being mucked about. The vendor has spent the week trying to approach other interested parties and playing us all off against each other. So! We gave him an ultimatum today, sign up or we retract our offer. He was still dithering at 5pm, trying to put in a 5 day get-out clause for him. So we withdrew our offer, and immediately put in an offer on this v sweet villa in Cambridge:
www.1stnational.co.nz/frames/templates/property.cfm?propertyID=535189
This is not a long term solution for us, we will still be looking for land. But, we will get to move out of rental into a very nice house, and get our stuff shipped over, and we should have no problem selling it again in 1-2 years time.
What do you think?

Jeeze Sam, you guys keep changing your minds as much as i have had jobs ( 8 in 18 months:laugh ). I can't make much of a comment on Villa's as i am not a lover of them, but i'm sure Elaine will have a comment or two when she comes across this thread as she loves them. Me i'm into new builds, don't like the thought of having to do maintenance on weatherboard;)
Good luck with it, and i hope you don't get messed around with this one. 3rd time lucky maybe.

It's lovely Sam and I don't blame you for pulling out of the land deal. Sometimes people don't deserve buyers. As you say in a year or 2 you can still build and by then that should be the only stress you have to live with, as you should be completely settled here. I think you are wise. :clap

Niiccceee.... I can see you relaxing in that bath with one of your vodka grapefruit cocktails!
It gives you time to get things sorted properly, get your foot on the property ladder, and good on you for blowing off the vendor, its hard when you want something, but sometimes has to be done.

Oh, that's such a nice house - love the garden, love the deck, love the brick path, love the fireplace, love the bathroom, love the rest of the rooms... I love it!
Good plan, too - gives you time to do loads more research before you build that dream home.

Love it; exactly the houses I hope for one day! Good idea to have some time to just 'be' in your own place and think of all that time you can now spend researching for your own build in a couple of years...good plan definitely.

We are very happy for you and Justin,Sam. You are such a lovely family and don't deserve to be taken for a ride, which is certainly how it seemed to us.Just make certain you get a survey report done on the house. If we can be of any help just ask
Kindest regards

Yay you! Well done on not letting the vendor hold you to ransom like that. Sellers will try any trick if they think people are desperate to buy and the only way to stop them is to prove you're not as desperate as they think!
The villa looks lovely - great period features and sure to sell on!

Looks good Sam,
Good for you for pulling out of land. Some vendors need to be taught a lesson in not annoying the buyer. It must be a wrench for you to have changed your plans again but I hope you enjoy your villa until another piece of land comes up

Yes - the garden reminded me of my old garden, it has a veggie patch too. Smaller but nice. House is a bit like my Cornwall one too, although obviously wood instead of stone!

Gorgeous house, love all the character.
Good Luck with the move, the land wasn't obviously meant to be for various reasons. Hopefully you'll find something even better :cheers

Just showed your house to my bf, and he said "Princes Street? That's where my mum grew up!" He's just calling her now to find out what number she lived at.
OK, she lived at no 13. No 7 used to belong to some people called Aeyers! Or maybe Easters...
It's such a small world - it freaks me out!

Great looking house Sam. I'm sure you'll find your perfect piece of land soon... In the meantime I hope you'll all be very happy in your little villa. I'm a big fan of old villas - I think they're fab.

It's a lovely villa, Sam, I'm very envious of that bathroom ;) Have to say I thought your last land deal seemed a little suspect on several counts - it's easy to let your heart rule your head when it comes to real estate, and for other people to take advantage of that. So well done you for walking away. I hope you're very happy in your new home :)

Ha ha Amanda, I know, we don't muck about. It's near that park we went to.
Jaycee, you're right, it was dodgy. Even if we'd got it, the farmer who wanted access could've turned nasty...
