Hi

Could anyone tell me whether there are any safe/calm kayaking areas around the Christchurch area - we're talking areas where it would be suitable to take a 4 year old out on a family kayak without taking risks on rough water.

Any gentle flowing river areas or sheltered bays?

Anything similar to Stagecoach in the UK? Performing arts education for children - music/drama etc?

Are there any beaches (sandy or not?)around the coast from Governor's bay to Diamond Harbour? We're looking at Tai Tapu as a possible area to live (very close to hills for me!) but also want to be relatively close to beaches for littl'un.

Thanks

If you want calm then how about the River Avon?

One of reasons why we just brought house in springston (do you realise Tai Tapu is expensive areas??? but nice), we will be within reasonable distances to several beaches, such as, birdling flat, Tautmutu as OH's workmates told us about good beaches that way, we have not yet see it, will do soon. Also akaroa is nearer, there is few good beaches too in bank peninsula (top secret.... Le Bons Bay..FAB, I was told of wainui's but yet not see it)
Not sure about using Lake Ellesmere on kayak, you need to check out as people can do sailing there, if you can cope with sandflies, we met swarm of them other days that we legged it back to car within few seconds after inspected lake!!:exit
