Ok - I am a bit (!) useless with technology and hoping that some of you IT people out there can help me with this ;)

When the house is sold and we are off being gypsys for the summer in our caravan :D I will have my laptop with me but no means of getting on internet. At that point we will only be in UK for 2 months at most so don't want to sign up for anything major - but whats going to be my best way to get online? It will mostly be for accessing emails and general web access probably not much (if any) uploading stuff.

Then...
same question for when we get to NZ. We think we may travel a bit upon arrival - whats best way in NZ to get online with my laptop? Don't want to be signing up for major accounts until we get house and get settled.

Please reply in language I can understand - eg. no tech talk :o

Do you have wireless on your laptop? If so I know that most Starbucks in NZ have wireless internet that you can use for free & 400 stores in the UK have it...

Otherwise from home I'd just use the BT line (know it will be shockingly slow but if its only for a couple of months its not worth signing up to anything...)

you might find that starbucks in the UK has wifi too. and a lot of the libraries in the UK have internet access, wouldn't know about wifi there though.

If you sign up for one of the free e mail account such as google mail or hotmail you can then access your e mails and the web from any internet cafe or library. or as said before, if you have wireless connection there are places such as starbucks where you can pick up a signal

Thanks folks - I do have wireless thingy in my laptop but was hoping that there was some way I could log in from anywhere. I've heard of cards you can buy from Vodafone?? But as I said I cannot commit to 12 mths so maybe its not worth it.

I did use a few internet cafes in NZ plus computers in most campsites. Maybe I'll be limited to this and where ever there is wireless.

Steve - great to hear from you - cannot wait to read your post - get typing... I'm a waiting... :D

You can get the card thingys from vodaphone, we use them at work but they are not cheap, although I suppose that depends on usage.

Starbucks wi-fi normally isn't free. The ones in Wellington are operated by Telecom for example (it may be different in the UK of course). It only costs a few bucks an hour and you can pay by credit card there and then.
