Hi everyone!

I'm in a bit (or is it a hell) of a dilemma. The good news is that I have found a job. The bad news is that I have found two jobs!:D I have been searching for jobs the last couple of weeks and 2 weeks ago have been offered one. I have accepted the offer verbally (just over the phone) but today I get a phonecall from another employer who I had an interview with, offering me a job which I would really like and which is so much closer to home.

Now I don't know if I can still pull out of the 1st job that has been offered to me, is 'accepting verbally' legally binding? I haven't signed anything or haven't received their written offer yet.

Oh dear me, why is life never easy????:confused:

You did sign any contract ,yes you can step back..

You are fine.

Just let the 1st one know. They may be a bit annoyed and not offer you a position in the future, or if they really want you they may improve their offer. The important thing is to let them know as soon as possible so they can get someone else.

While legally there is common law the first company may be able to use to sue you, this is rarely used. So as the others have said you should be fine, though it is recommended to formally advise the first company as soon as possible.

Thanks for your replies! I haven't made up my mind quite yet. I feel guilty to let the first employer who made an offer down but I would really like to go with the second job offer I got, it's my life isn't it?
As you said swissmissdesigner I haven't signed anything yet so I hope it won't bring me into trouble if I cancel the first job.
Don't worry Speckythecky they are just ordinary part time administrative jobs, they wouldn't open the gate to NZ for you!:D
