Well its on the way.
From November all new houses are to have DOUBLE GLAZING and other heating solutions in South island and parts of the North
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10437608

It goes to show that the fiasco we had last week with the builders telling me DG was not needed,it now looks like they will have to put it in. This though only means one thing, even higher prices unless they can come up with a way to produce it more ecconomicaly. The government should be providing grants to insulate pre existing properties as well

Kindest regards

Whoooohooo!! ...although I notice there's no requirements if you live in North of North Island or lower North Island for Double Glazing in new homes?! Why? - is that because lower North Island is considered 'tropical' and doesn't need new fangled things like double glazing? - ha!!! tell me that when I'm wearing half my wardrobe in winter just to stay warm! Surprised the govt. bods who live here haven't included all areas of NZ so they can benefit from it too! My hubby works in construction & he & his mate (working in Auckers from UK) still can't get over the fact that the construction co's don't even put double glazing in million dollar apartments! with the attitude you seem to have come across - oh its not needed - waste of money!

There's certainly a scheme for underfloor polystyrene insulation for those on low incomes in our area. But would be great if an open to all scheme was rolled out nationally to improve housing.

So, it looks like something is finally being done.......:clap

I was only talking about this the other day to a friend of mine and we were saying that grants should be made readily available for the poorly insulated homes.

How long will it take them to realise that a months stay in hospital with pneumonia will probably cost more than a grant for insulating a property.

Once it becomes necessary to put DG in a new house the price of DG will rise due to demand but once companies start making it as the norm the prices should drop.
Look forward to all those awful DG adverts on the tele.
