We are a married couple with 2 young kids (4 & 3) looking to escape the U.K ( Derbyshire) :exit
I am a joiner with an B.A Hons in Art and Design. but would do anything to pay the bills.. We are really concerned about the state of the U.K and would love to move to N.Z for our selves and the Kids.. I could not stand buy and let them slip into the ways of the kids standing around on street corners here..
So we will be asking lots of questions..

Might just take you up on that if you let me know more details..
We have been reading up on all the old threads and advice given..
I would say that for me I need to know the best way to find work in my field of expertise or if their is any in the areas that we choose to settle in.. although if it pays enough I would turn my hand to anything..

Welcome to the madhouse Dual. Nice to see Andy-Dee is getting the hooks into you already about the NW meet up in Warrington! :laugh If you want info on the emigration process and just to chat to like minded folks, it is a great resource. We doubt if we would have made it here so easily if we had not been to them, for the support and just downright friendliness of the thing.
Good luck!!

Steve, I have already found out more on this forum, than reading two books and looking at various sites.. So you are right it is a great resource..
I am really determined to get out of the U.K but it has to be of benefit to my family.. We are currently looking at 4 options..
1) Moving our Business over to N.Z.. A building and joinery company with a design ethic..
2) Starting again.
3) Working for someone else ( less stress and more time with my kids)
4) Buying a business over there.. Either a joinery business or a cafe/ restaurant for my wife to run.. with me as a charming waiter :laugh
So we will be looking for advice on all of these topics..
So if if any of you guys are looking for a chippy or know of someone who is I am your man:D.

Hi Dual:nice1
What a small world this is, both me and hubby were born and bred in Derbyshire, we were down visiting relatives in South Normanton at the weekend and saw your thread. Knowing the area I can understand your concerns regarding the kids and one of our motivations is moving for the kids as well as for ourselves. You will note we now live in Scotland which is a great place to live, but as we have already got a job offer from the NZ army it is a chance we can not turn down. Welcome to the forum, it is a great place to get any questions you have, answered by some great people who have all been through the process. Best of luck:cheers

Hi Dual and WELCOME to the forum.
Gaining PR whilst still in the UK would give you the versatility you may need if you want to decide which road to take once you are in NZ.
We had PR (through the Skilled Migrant Category) before we came here and are glad we did - it gave us our independence and freedom of choice without being tied to any one employer in any particular place.
Can't give any advice on moving your UK business over to NZ, but starting it up again here is definitely an option as is working for someone else, but after being self-employed for years, I personally would find becoming an employee very difficult.
Good luck with your decisions and plans.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with whatever road you decide to take.
As has been said, the north west meet is a good place for a face to face chat with like minded people and to put names to faces.
We haven't set a date for the next one yet but judging by the number of people at the last one that were considering moving in Aug / Sept, I think we need to be planning sometime in July. Any thoughts?
