Hi there
Just wondering how long Teacher Registration takes with the Teachers Council? Can anyone tell me their experiences of this.
We sent out Teacher Registration application 5 weeks ago and apart from hearing back immediately to say that they had received our application we have not had any word since and are beginning to wonder if we should contact them?
Thanks

My application took about 2 months.
Cheers, Mark.

The NZTC only meet every 6 weeks to consider applications, so if you have missed the cut off date for a meeting (likely to be a couple of weeks in advance at least), you are likely to have a bit of a wait for the next one. I think their website has the meeting schedule on it, so you can see where your application is likely to be considered.

Thanks, that's good advice, I'll check the website.
I'm just anxious as this is currently the only things we're waiting on besides medicals.

7 weeks for us. However, I had contacted them to get an update, and got a reply the following day to say OH had been approved, so it may be worth trying that - it could have been coincidental or they may have made a decision and just not got around to telling us.

I looked too and couldn't find the dates. I emailed my TC case officer, and she said she would only provide me with that information once my NZQA is received!! Waiting..waiting..waiting...

Apologies - it has been over 3 years since we went through the process and maybe the NZTC has taken the meeting schedule off the website since then. I can't find it anyway. Odd that they won't give out the information!

Probably being a bit dim but can anyone remember from filling in the Teachers Council form, section E: police clearances, where you have to say the countries you've been in for over 12 months in the last 10 yrs other than NZ, and you have to put dates from and to.....well I've been in the UK since forever and to the current date, so what do I put? Can't understand what a uk citizen puts!

I seem to remember that if you have never been to nz (including over 10yrs and for any length of time) and have never spent more than 12 months anywhere else in the last 10 years then you do not need to fill in the police clearance, just send a copy of you british police check.

Hi there. I've just got my provisional registration:raebanana
It took six months from NZQA qualifications checking to receiving the practicing certificate:mad: . About three months of that time was waiting for the teachers council process to play out. I still don't have a final salary assessment, but it won't be long.Good luck!

Carey,
yes I was hoping for less, but looking at tentuns posts, they applied late march / early april and haven't heard yet while ours went off in May so a long wait yet then.
OH has written CV and cover letter is nearly complete, just trying to understand what metacognistics are then she will be applying for jobs in the north shore area.
Good luck with your process, when did you send off?

Hi all.
It took 3 months from my first application (TC1) to getting provisional registration last week. My situation was a bit complicated, because NZQA did not recognise my PGCE. The thing is, you have to go through the whole teachers registration process- you can't jump to the next step. I had to apply for registration knowing it would be turned down at the first time of asking, in order to make another application under the special circumstances route- where I had to get statements of service from every employer, provide syllabuses and certificates of teacher training and degrees (with a breakdown of modules studied), copies of lesson observation feedback, appraisals, records of CPD- you name it, they got it. The Council then considered all this at the June meeting and I got my registration. I still have to do 2 years of an advice and gudance programme to get full registration. Luckily I have a job already- but the biggest downer is I started at the bottom rung of the pay scale- $26770. But hey- I got there in the end! You may not have the same bother if you have a BEd and Secondary PGCE. My advice is expect a long frustrating wait!

OH has a B Ed so that's OK, just waiting for next council meeting I hope.

Any news yet Tentun?
I was just writting this question last night when my laptop crashed and rather than re start I went to bed.
Got up this morning to an e mail from tc.
OH has been given provisional status for 2 years but because of her experience in UK if she provides more evidence (threshhold certificate, continuing professional development and apraisal documents) she will only need to do 3 months provisional before applying for full registration.

Hi
Yes, we've FINALLY heard something but not what we were expecting. They needed extra documents ie. appraisals, teacher lesson observations etc which I'm coming to understand is pretty normal for UK PGCE and other quals that aren't B Ed.
So we've sent that all off and I believe they are looking at our case at the next council meeting (which is on 27th June apparently) and after that we should hopefully have an answer! Taking so long! But I guess they must have a huge workload to get through. Anyway, hopefully we will get there in the end.

Good news for you Speckythecky, hope it continues with job hunting.
Rather worried now from your post Tentun about TC wanting more info. to back up PGCE as I'm pretty sure I dumped all those early appraisals, lesson observations a while back....oh no, what will I do if they ask me for those?

Hi there
Don't worry Carey, I'm sure you will be fine. I didn't mean to worry you.
We got through NZQA ok and OH has tons of experience and to be honest, it never even entered my head that we wouldn't get registration. Hopefully this extra info that we supplied will seal the deal.
We should hear next week though so I'll fill you all in when I have some news

OH got an e mail today to say that the extra info she had provided was enough for her to be recommended for STC status and checking the register has confirmed that she now has that status. She should get her certificate ( a little pink card) in a couple of weeks.
