Hi all,

Friends of ours have just been granted PR. He has an 18 year old daughter from a previous relationship. She was not included in the PR application but was obviously listed in the family info.

She is arriving in September for a year or so and would very much like to work whilst she is here (possibly even study if she decides to / can stay longer.

What is the best visa / permit for her to apply for? Should she apply from here once she gets here? Would she be entitled to a Gereral WP on the back of her Dad's PR? Is it best for her to apply for a Working Holiday Visa whilst she is still in the UK? Can she apply for a WHP from here once she arrives?

Any info would be great.

Thanks

get the working holiday visa, will give her two years here, 52 weeks of which she can work, but in practice most can work for more. means she will need a medical for the two year one though.

I suspect that 18 year olds are considered to be independent by NZIS unless they are in full time education (is this not the trap that colindp's son fell into?), and that any 18 year old applying for a WP is basically on their own i.e. they would have to meet all those criteria independent of whether their parents have been granted PR. A WHV would be the best idea I think.

Why don't they check with NZIS? Sounds like something they will get a lot of queries about.
