Once your expression of interest is accepted, what's the minimum amount of time it could take to get Residency or a Work Visa if everything went smoothly and you get all the checkups at short notice?

If you had a job offer I understand that things get processed very quickly. It could still take 40 days for the police checks to be returned although you could get lucky an get them back a bit quicker. The medicals results don't take long to be returned usually within the week, but getting the appointment can take a while but can be speeded up if you a prepared to travel.

Without a job offer the big hold up is NZIS. We submitted our ITA in Feb and are still waiting for a case officer.

I am sorry I can't be more definate but I hope this helps

That's almost impossible to answer without some more details .. for example, if you have a job offer and a very straightforward application you could get a work permit VERY quickly .. in some places in NZ people have got them issued the same day. Residency is entirely different and would I expect take at least a few weeks even if your application was very easy to process and you had a job offer. Mine took 5 months even with a job offer.

Without a job offer you could be waiting a while, the more points you have the quicker you will be selected.

Also NZQA takes ages in some cases should you need to get quals assessed.
Alot of cases seem to take a typical 12-18 months without job offer

Our EOI was selected in first week of December 06, then we got our ITA completed for the end of February. One hiccup with all the TB questions not ticked by the doctor and then mid March were told it would take up to 4 months to be assigned a case officer (120 pts, no job offer).
Then last Thursday received an email from our new case officer at the London branch, and now hopefully getting a work to residence visa within the next few weeks following a phone interview yesterday. About 6 months in our case then.. now we need to get moving organising everything else!
