This may seem a silly question, but will UK format videos play on a NZ video recorder?
Thx

yes they will
However DVDs in NZ are region 4 as opposed to region 2 for the UK. (Just get a multi region DVD player is the answer to that)

Videos - not sure, just bring the video and hook it up to the tv via scart or AV leads, other than that, can't help there Zorb :)

Or unlock them yourself using free "codes" found on the internet!! I did 4 different dvd players :clap .. Lots of people sell these codes but they are mostly available free
Search 'free unlock dvd' on google and it comes up with sites like this one ..

Yes, slight tangent but not entirely unconnected ..
As aggelon already said .. yes, videos are the same in NZ as they are in UK

Yep, they'll play. The only trouble is that you won't be able to tune a UK video (or tv for that matter).
Also, the scart is officially called a Euro AV lead, so that haven't really heard of them out here and most of the gear that they sell out here doesn't have a scart output. However, you can buy a scart to composite lead out here if you need it...

Is that true?
Is there no point in bringing my old TVs / Video recorders?

They will work, but if you won't be able to tune them in to receive the channels. They will work with external devices, such as sky, video or dvd etc. though, but it limits your options some what.
Have a look at http://www.hillandstewart.co.nz (http://www.hillandstewart.co.nz) orhttp://www.stereoworld.co.nz if you want an idea how much new tvs and videos will cost here. Or you could use the kiwi (and now my) favourite http://www.trademe.co.nz for second hand stuff.
Good luck. :nice1

Just to clarify..
Will a DVD player fetched from the UK be able to play out through a NZ TV?
Cheers

It will work if you plug them together using AV cables (Scart, RCA etc.) but if you try to connect using the RF aerial connector you will have trouble as the audio offset for for NZ PAL TV is different to the UK PAL standard. So you would have either picture or sound but not both. Although with some very careful tuning it is possible to reach a form of fuzzy compromise.

We use our old little UK television with our UK video for the kids to watch their children's videos on.
But we donated our large UK TV to a friend in need. To be honest it was a bit dated and probably wouldn't have survived the journey anyway.

I think it's important to realise that not all TV's are the same. I brought my UK TV's to NZ and had no difficulty tuning them into a normal aerial .. they were new though.
As already mentioned, ALL TVs/DVDs and Videos will work if you connect them to a sky box. Also, even if you are not connecting to a sky box .. if you have a UK TV you can connect it to a normal aerial if you run it through a NZ Video recorder.

Thanks all. Just can't bear the idea of throwing away my old Clangers & 'The Herbs' videos and many other classics!

I recently spoke to someone who moved ot NZ 3 years ago - she was back in the UK on holiday. She said she took all her TV's and paid either £50 or $50 to get them retuned - a lot cheaper than buying new ones when you arrive. We have now decided to take ours with us when (or if) we move. We bought a new tv last year (42" plasma) and don't really want to leave it behind.
