Folks
I'm abit confused about the migrant levy. When does it have to be paid. Does everybody (regardless of which route was taken to apply for PR) have to pay it.
I'm right at the very final stages of all the red tape, ready for checking in at Heathrow and nobody has asked me for any levy.
Am I missing something?

Hi Diny,
Aren't you going in under a different category than skilled migrant? form 1028 says:
"All successful principal applicants and accompanying family
members under the following categories are required to pay
a migrant levy unless they have already paid it prior to a work
visa or permit being granted under the Work to Residence
(Skilled Migrant Category) Policy:
Category Migrant levy per Maximum payable for
successful applicant family members
(NZ$) included in a single
application (NZ$)
Family Category* 300 1200
Family Quota* 300 1200
Pacifi c Access Category 150 600
Skilled Migrant Category 300 1200
Business Investor Category 300 1200
Entrepreneur Category 300 1200
Employees of Relocating 300 1200
Business Category
Residence from Work 300 1200
Category
* excluding applicants who are citizens of Samoa and the
family members of refugees, whether those family members
arrive at the same time or later than the refugees."
From my reading the levy is due after conditional acceptance.
Mark. :P

My boyfriend applied under the Family Partnership category for permanent residence and he paid a migrant levy of £115 just before receiving his passport back with the stamps.

We're due to get our passports back any time now so I guess there will be a bill landing in my lap before they arrive.
Ah well - such is life.
Thanks for your info.

Have spoken to my case officer today. She tells me that I'm due a letter requesting 345.00 (115 x 3) which will need to be paid before we get our 'golden tickets'.
The money goes towards research into NZ Immigration plus it helps to fund teaching English as a 2nd language in NZ.
Seeing as English is my first language I may ask for a discount. No ... not really.

hello diny
we were told $1200 for our levy( a family of 4) and that we would have 6 months to pay.
but i think thats because we are in christchurch and iain already has a work visa.
we done it the fastest way, finding iain work ,EIO submitted ,selected, then 2yr work visa , sold up and moved and finaly PR while here.
the PR only took less then 24 hours.
so now we are residents.
the whole process finding work,EIO,selected, moving, and getting residency, from start to finish only took us just under 4 months .
good luck and hopefully see you at one of the BBQ,s

The migrant levy, a strange thing. I always wondered why I was paying 345 quid to an organistion that put me through hell and back, just to enable a better service for those who come after me. Well stuff them what do I care about them. Another example of NZIS taking a little bit more.
