We're trying to plan a recce in August on a very tight budget. Now bearing in mind you get what you pay for, has anyone any experience of flying via Korea? Warts and all please!

If you are no bigger than 3ft 4 and have a large supply of elastics bands for the engine you will be fine.
Sorry, never used them but I believe it takes a long time

Are parachutes included or can you bring your own. I can't say I'm fully inspired at the prospect but I wouldn't mind finding out why they are so cheap(ish).

I flew them once in 98ish and they were perfectly ok. Nothing special, but if you're looking for a seat with a seatbelt then they are fine. They didn't crash and I didn't arrive dehydrated or with dvt so I figured it was a successful flight.

And here I am almost not flying and giving up the job offer though the employer pays for it all just coz the flight is sooo long.:D
More to the point I am sure they have safe planes. Did not hear many korean planes going down. Good luck

True, we haven't heard of any Korean planes going down, it was more the fact we hadn't heard of any Korean planes fullstop! having done France and back with Ryanair (you know, 'hurry up, get on, sit down and shut up', air crew freshly promoted from Kwiksave and that wonderful 'one-size fits all' uniform) I can't see how anything could match. If it's just the time thing it may be worth a look. What I can't work out is why the prices are more expensive to fly in our summer to a place that is in the middle of its own winter. One hell of a north/south divide that is!:roll

Actually it is not too bad from North America to NZ in spring/summer (June on). Checked Air NZ and they are really cheap.

With the UK summer holidays it doesn't matter where you go they just put prices through the roof :roll So no family can afford a decent holiday abroad then.
I have heard they do drop the prices around the 15th August so it could be worth looking into, that was 2 years ago and not sure if they still do that.
Have heard of Korean Airways. Had an option to fly with them back from here to the UK but the transfer on my own at Seoul and the long waits between put me off. In the end they weren't actually that much cheaper.

FlightComparison.co.uk (http://www.flightcomparison.co.uk/flightcomparison/flights/flightlist.aspx?DestinationCode=akl&DestinationName=Auckland&DepartureCode=lon&DepartureName=London%20Airports&DepDate=Aug07&MaxCost=&Airline=All+Airlines....) shows that Singapore Airlines actually comes out cheapest in August from LHR ato AKL. You definitely won't have any problems there.
We flew out for our recce trip in March with Malaysia Airlines. They were fantastic. The seats in economy have a 34" seat pitch (Ryanair and EasyJet have 28"; Virgin Atlantic is only 31"). The food was great and the stewards/esses were exemplary. The entertainment system is well worth considering if you're sitting in the same seat for the best part of a day. On MAS, you had a choice of about 40 films, 80 TV programmes, 30 games, 20 radio channels and about 150 music albums to listen to. You won't get bored.
