Being in the oil and gas industry I had no trouble getting a job offer in NP. But how's the demand in IT/programming jobs there? My partner wants to follow me in a few months with a visitor visa and try his luck finding a job.
What are the good and bad points living in New Plymouth? For a single person like me I was wondering if social activities are alive and well there. Please share your experiences and thoughts. Thanks very much!

Look for posts by Hannah, she raves about it! Certainly made us view it in a positive light when we visited in March and we loved it.

Yes take a look at Hannah's posts as she has just returned there after a stint back home. I can't make to many comments whether they being good or bad as i have only visited there once to see a friend, but it was on our possible location list when we first arrived. It is a place that i probably could have taken to quite easily.
As for your question regarding IT/programming, sorry its not my line on employ, but i would imagine you would be able to pick something up down there. Sorry i couldn't put a more positive slant on it.

Hi Ayumi,
Can i ask you what you are doing in oil/gas in New Plymouth?
Would be interested to know a bit more about it, because I have been in tank shipping. I happily live in Wellington, where unfortunately there is not such an industry.
Cheers,
Anita

I found it to be a really lovely area... and a decent size town. I loved the beaches and the little bush walks near town.

Hi Ayumi,
Not sure if this is still current, but I work in New Plymouth in the oil and gas industry too. We met a couple out here when we first arrived and the bloke works in IT. They are on this forum under the name 'Jaywalker'. If you look them up and give them a shout I'm sure he'll help if he can.
Cheers,
Hugo.
