For those who know me will know I have already had 2 jobs over here. Now I am looking for my 3rd. My 2 directors have fallen out. So the nice one has left leaving us stranded with the not so nice one. So it was a redundancy letter 2 days ago! So I handed my notice in as I want to be in control of when I leave. Day before we move into our new home. Bad timing with new mortgage.
Now I have to find a job, have had 2 interviews so far already, another on tue, all for very different roles. I just DONT want to do sell anthing any more by cold calling, too old, too tired. But I always get typecast by the recruitment agencies.
If anyone in Wellington knows of anyone looking for a service delivery manager or relationship builder role I have loads of experience in IT, training, management etc etc.
Its that or start my own business and take the plunge. Have 2 good ideas I could do together (both as a result of moving here to NZ and finding the lack of them) but scared of not making ends meet in the meantime. Maybe after 3rd job goes pear shape:D
I am a great believer that you cannot have all 3 things great in your life at the same time, one always goes astray. told my OH least we have each other and are healthy...ish.

Sorry to hear that, hope the next one is the dream job for you.
After reading about how people are on their second and third jobs in relatively short period of time, I am curious to know if this is by choice. Are you finding that there are lots of jobs that can be had so one is obviously more "mobile" or is it a case of employer promising a lot more than what they actually deliver once the person joins the team? What is it that makes one change jobs rather frequently. Cheers

Seriously, what is up with all the job changes?
Do they treat you bad or are you just looking for a better salary.
I am curious too.
Thanks for any honest reply.

Good luck Angela! I am sure you will find something soon. I know what you mean about the recruiters typecasting you, I have stopped working with them because they only saw me in one light.
I just quit my job yesterday (the first one). The main reason I would have to say was that I was bored. I know a lot of people who quit for similar reasons. Perfectly nice place and I will miss the people there, just too slow paced for me. It is fairly easy to move around here and a lot of people do just that looking for the perfect role. I gave my new one a lot of thought and I am hoping this will get me on a good long term path but my old place would take me back quite quickly as it remains a very tight labour market.

Hi,
I can agree for a bit with what CLG says. In my case it has been very difficult to fit my European experience with the NZ labour market. At the start I used the wrong job titles, just translating does not work. Then all recruitment agencies tell you a different story, what is very confusing.
In my first job (March last year) after a week I had the feeling: what am I doing here - it was like being dropped back in time 20 years, although they wanted me because of my experience. I was not allowed to use my experience though. At the moment I am already much better off, but not at the level I would like to be ideally, so still on the look out and trying to get a better understanding of the job market.
One disadvantage I came along is that I do not have a degree and never really specialised in one area. And the areas of my experience don't pay very well over here.
So, Angela, don't worry - there are a lot of people in the same situation and it will definitely get better and better, but most of time only step by step.
Good luck,
anita

Thanks for all your messages.
the first job the staff were bitchy and underhanded and I got paid late without any explanation so I quit after they banked it.
The second job they lied and said the company was up and running. I had to start from scratch and set up all the processes and find customers. Now both directors are talking to each other via lawyers not a good situation to be working under.
Both were recruitment companies so you would think it was easier for me to find a job.
Job titles do make a difference, I have just changed all mine on my new CV and it has made a difference. One thinkg I have found if your salary expectations are not high enough they do not think you are as expereinced so bump them up.
So have a job interview as a kitchen bathroom planner/ sales in IT/ recruitment (no selling this time) and who knows what else I will get.
My idea for a business is a web site with all open homes and refereal system as there are so many single estate agents you do not know where to start. Plus I made a restaurant guide in Cyprus that was pocket size and free. Nothing here similiar. So if you guys have input as to whether you would thinkg either or both woud be good to get off the ground, I may go for it. Now I have PR I can start a business. Any budding web designers out there looking for some work??????

I understand what you mean about working with Recruitment firms, my sister had a similar negative experience with an IT recruitment company.
The closest restaurant guide we have locally are things like the Entertainment Book or special suburb based directories that fold up. Or possibly the i-Station kiosks.
If you can attract the advertisers, a pocket directory could be good, especially as restaurants change menus, owners and names regularly, so most other directories soon become out of date.
Your property site also sounds an interesting concept, especially with the current and future trends in the industry.
