This is what we will be doing, were not sure if we should submit ITA in London or leave it until we arrive in Hamilton late next month.
How far through the process at the moment?

We submitted our ITA in London in Nov 2006 and then travelled to NZ on a 6 months visitors visa in March ( you have to get your passports sent back from NZ House) so you can travell but when there ready they just ask you to send them back , sofar everything is running ok , but will do an update of our situation soon.

That's exactly what we did - submitted our EOI in the UK around June 2004-ish, got selected in July 2004-ish then came here on visitors visas in Sept 2004-ish, found a job Nov-2004 (the job OH could do with PR) which meant OH got work permit then rang NZIS to tell them and, with no problems at all, they transferred our files to the Chch branch. so that the ITA would be sent to NZ and all our details were updated... easy!
Sorry for the al -ish's - memory fading!

I went to NZ House in London on Friday and asked about this. The woman there said if I wanted to go to NZ before my application was approved I could apply for a temporary work visa - you can apply online and they can take up to 6 weeks to process, but if you go into NZ House when they're not busy they can process it on the spot.
They're not available in all circumstances - just checked and you are only eligible to apply if:
you have a job offer from a New Zealand employer
there is a specific purpose or event for which you need to come to New Zealand to work
you are a student or trainee who wants to work here, or
you want to join your partner here and work.

We took our work visa applications to London and although they couldn't process them on the day, as there were two, they were all sorted by the next working day. They phoned and e-mailed me to tell us everything had been processed. I was really impressed.

Hi,
We moved back to the UK in 2003 our residency has now expired but we are keen to go back and we need to go through the whole process again.ARRRRR!::wah :wah
Do you need a job offer to get a temporay work visa and how have people found getting a job offer from the U.K end.We went to the Manchester expo and We have also found in the past employers only want to know when you have a work visa it is a "catch 22" is there any way round this.
Thank you

Yep, the good old "can't get a visa until you have a job, but can't apply for jobs until you have a visa" chestnut....
If you are in NZ then thankfully, employers who want your skills will do the paperwork to get you a work visa if you come over on a visitors visa - that's what happened in our case and I know of others. We made sure we told them we'd been selected and in the process of getting PR, not sure if it helped but we figured it would demonstrate commitment.
While some people have managed to get jobs from the U.K, I think most would agree that being here and attending an interview is very desirable from an employers point of view. While it's changing in some industries (teaching for one) most would prefer you to be here and some people don't even get a reply when applying from UK.
Having said that, if you see a job advertised on the net etc most will say "don't apply unless you can legally work in NZ" or words to that effect.. don't let that put you off, apply anyway, and tell them you have had PR and can get it again etc and you never know....
My two-penneth worth ;)

This is really useful stuff. We hadn't even thought of this approach, but it seems as if it could be a viable one. We are visiting in Feb 2008 (four week campervan holiday - plus recce:D ), and guess it would be worth getting a visitors visa for then...andy ideas on the cost?:o
Didn't even know such things existed, so thanks.....:nice1
