After much discussion here, we've decided to go ahead with the Work Permit to PR route. Our Kiwi-Roomie-BestFriend is returning to NZ in June, and OH wants me to move over in August to secure work and WP while he ties up loose ends here.

I've got really mixed feelings about this. I'm nervous because it's uncertain how long OH and I will be apart (will have to sell cars, house, etc. before he can come), and although I will have our friend there as a "home base", it's not the same.

Also, another snag is our dog. Due to lack of foresight on my part, he won't be able to be shipped until December. If OH is gone before then, we have friends who can take care of him, but then it's a matter of trusting they will make sure all of the necessary vet visits and stuff is done (which I do trust they'll do but being the control freak I am, it's nerve wracking!)

IPT told me today that he's too big to fly from Auckland to Wellington, so that's another thing we are waiting to hear from the quarantine facility as to what to do.

So in a matter of two days, everything became a crazy mess! :D But I'm also excited, and as ever, trying to keep a positive outlook.

Congrats on making a decision, it feels a bit easier when you decide on a plan.:nice1
I sympathize with you on being separated from your partner; we've talked about the same plan you have with Steve going over first, and frankly it scares the bajeezes out of me, even though I'm the one pushing for the possibility! Good luck with everything, I hope your OH joins you soon and your dog gets his travel sorted:)

Thanks Ana! I really hope the two of you can get over there ASAP. And when you do, you better let me know so I can buy you a drink or two...or three! ;)

By a strange bit of luck and coincidence, we found a buyer for our house today! So it looks as if we'll be able to go together after all. :nice1 Good sign that it was meant to be?

And Shado-Lans has been very helpful with arranging for the 4-legged child to arrive in Wellington safely.

Feeling much better about it all today.

Isn't it strange how things can change in the space of 24 hours?

Whilst we were still in the UK, I remember worrying about how things were going to work out for us and trying so hard to get all the pieces of the jigsaw to fit.

Then all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, it seemed as though everything slotted into place overnight and hey presto - done !!!

You will get through all this stress - trust me - we've all been there.

Good luck in all your endeavours.

Julie

I'm glad it worked out for you.

People do what they have to, so I'm not being critical in any way of people who make the move separately. But I would have had a much harder time making the move without my fabulous wife.

Shado-Lans will do right by you and your dog. (We still use em for boarding, because our dogs love them!)
