We just rented a house and was measuring the wall space for the washer & dryer we have to provide ourselves when I noticed there was not a vent for the dryer. The leasing agent also said the dryer should be a wall mount. What? I'm from the States and never have seen a non-venting dryer or one mounted on a wall. Is this dryer configuration common?

Ours sends the hot air out the front, you have it in a room where you can have an open window, and thats where the damp air goes.....

In the UK we had a Tumber Dryer with a condensing unit. This traps the steam in a reservoir (as water) and you empty it when it's full.

In the UK you can have both types, vented and condensing. As willowshouse says, a condensing dryer has a unit at the front which collects all the condensation and you just empty it every so often. They're not meant to be as efficient. We have a vented type (out the back) but as we move from property to property we don't always have a vent, and have never experienced problems as long as you keep a window open!

Wall mount are very common in NZ, to the extent that settings are printed 'upside down' so when you miunt it the controls are at the bottom and you can still read them!
