Call out to wellingtonians....
Does anyone have a haircut place they'd recommend? I'm looking for some place that isn't too much money - just a cut (no colour or anythign fancy like that). I also have a hard time with salons that have too much of a chemical smell to them (hence why I don't do colouring etc myself:)
I also need to buy a pair of gogles so I can go swimming without either (a) taking out my contacts of (b) keeping my eyes closed... both of which result in me drunkenly swimming all over my lane. Fine for now when I'm swimming at odds hours and have a lane to myself, but I need to move on and get the proper equipment:)

There's a great swim shop opposite the Freyberg Pool in Oriental Bay. Really small place but got lots of stuff in it :nice1
The only place I got my hair cut was in Johnsonville in the main shopping area, but I can't remember the name of the salon :uhoh
If you're ever over in the Wairarapa can highly recommend Magie Bs in Greytown. They're not too expensive :)

If you don't mind a short drive to Eastbourne, I can recommend someone very good at the Modz Hair Co. I'm not sure how he spells his name but he pronounces it "Perrari" (like Ferrari with a P). 04 562 8916. I had an overgrown, very dated haircut and he re-shaped it completely, without taking away too much length or doing anything drastic. He's very good at texturizing to remove bulk without giving you a butchered look. The new cut lets my hair fall in natural patterns -- I don't have to battle the wavy part with a curling iron anymore. Just love it. The cost was $40.00 and worth every bit.
His salon is small and well-kept-up -- no smell that I could notice.

I had my hair cut on THe Terrace forgot the name and now have taken 2 months to regrow out the mess she made! I am an ex hairdresser and I hate going to the salon. I will have to carry on cutting it myself until someone points me in the right directions to a great cutter. I would pay the earth just to have it cut properly.
I am going to wait until I go back to the UK to see my daughter and get it cut there.
Good luck is all I can say and look at the other staffs hair and ask who cut them and then make a decision. If the consultation does not sound right get out of the chair and walk!!!:exit especially if there is no consultation with your dry hair!!

For a good, cheap but reasonably basic haircut I like Amy's on Ghuznee Street (about $35). Didn't notice a chemically smell, and it's not particularly big or busy.
If you're prepared to pay more, Jam (Cuba St) did a fantastic job on my partner's hair, but it depends if you want to pay $60. They do a lot of dying there.
