So I am 1-2 years away from moving to NZ, but want to start early and make sure I am covering all my bases. I posted before asking about me applying as a Salesman. Seems that won't quite cut it, so I am focusing on making sure they recognise the partnership of my girlfriend and I.

Sooo.....
I am keeping a folder with all sorts of proof that my girlfriend and I are in a commited relationship.

In 1-2 years we will be ready to log our EOI under my girlfriend's qualifications.

I then understand that they review the EOI and determine if they will grant PR or not.

At what point should we submit the EOI? While we are in the states? Or should we make the move then submit the EOI?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
after you apply for the EOI, you hopefully get selected from the pool. If the EOI passes, they give you a "Decision Successful" and send you an Invitation to Apply.(ITA) Then, if they like the ITA, you receive PR.
I don't know what the selection criteria will be in 1-2 years, but if you have enough points to get pulled, I say apply from the States. The process can continue in NZ if you decide to move, or you could wait for PR and enter NZ in the special line (NZ visas) at customs.:nice1 When to sumit the EOI probably depends alot on your time line, and how quickly you want to get to NZ.
Good job collecting relationship evidence, I think they are mostly looking for mail for each of you that comes to the same address, or bills in both of your names.
Hope it goes smoothly,
Ana

Thanks for the info! Is the ITA any more difficult than getting past the EOI? If you get an ITA are you most likely in?

If you think that you have enough points for EOI at the moment (or at least your gf has) that it may be worth you submitting EOI sooner rather than later.
you can delay or rush the process as necessary at each stage (up to set time limits).
however you decide to do things, keeping a file of information is important. you need to collect evidence for parts of the ITA, so the more you have collected the quicker you can move to submit the ITA
