I think there have been threads on something like this before but could some one clarify a few things for me.

1) We have a 3yr old tv how much would it cost to convert to NZ so that we could receive their programs

2) Has any one done it and what was the result

3) Was it worth it

Can't make our minds up what to do, take it or leave it behind:confused:

Patricia - yes they can be used on TV system here if you know what you are doing. If all fails on the setup side, you can buy one of the (pretty rare) video recorders and connect it up to that.

If you have the tv handbook, look at the tech specification and see what tv system it is capable of receiving. If it says PAL B/G as well as PAL I you ill be fine. But if it is made for the European market it will be capable of being made to work on the NZ system.

I had difficulty with my tv at first but some digging round enabled me to sort it out in the end. Saved me 1300 dollars for a new tv :)

Good luck.

We are using our TV out here albeit working through a NZ VCR. All that is required are a set of AV leads and away you go. We spent 45 bucks and got a TV engineer to deal with it, best few bucks we have spent as we just didn't know how to get it working. We were told originally by Panasonic in the UK that the TV could be converted, but when we spoke with Panasonic NZ we got a different answer, and within the answer was it will cost more to do than buying a new one.

Hi Patricia - not sure where you're based so can only answer for UK.

If you're coming from UK we're both on PAL systems - just the NZ one is different & it means that the sound doesn't work on your UK TV... unless you connect up through video recorder - or do as we did & link it up through a SKY system (that's if you want SKY TV) - for some reason (I'm not technical!) if you have SKY TV your sound works perfectly - if you do get SKY tell them you have a UK TV since the technician that supplies the cables will need one that connects to the SCART output on your TV (NZ TV's don't use SCART to connect up to Sky or DVD).

Patricia, not a conversion as such, just a "re-jig" of the parameters in the tv. I have sent you a pm, send me the details of your tv and I'll dig around to see what I can find for you.
